It took 18.5 painful innings of crappy offense but Albert Pujols led off the 19th inning and crushed one to RF for a video-reviewed HR requested by Red Sox coward/manager John Farrell.
Credit the fantastic pitching by Garrett Richards, who took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning and the Angels bullpen was in full on lockdown mode, surrendering only one run in thirteen innings. Angels starter Matt "Shoebacca" Shoemaker pitched the final three innings, on his bullpen day no less, for the win.
Earlier yesterday, the Angels jumped all over Clay Buchholtz in the first inning with three straight hits and two quick runs. However, that quick start was given away by ill-timed lapses in defense in the 7th inning by Erick Aybar and Howie Kendrick allowed Pink Hat Nation to find their voice and stink up the building with their cheering. Boston would score a run in the 14th on some heads-up base running by everyone's favorite rat-faced second baseman Dustin Pedoria but the Angels would only manage to score one run to tie it up despite having the bases juiced with no outs later that inning.
Six hours and thirty-one minutes long and still feels good to say light up the halo! Celebrate with your gifs of victory!
