Albert Pujols hit his 520th career home run on Monday night in an Angels loss to the Athletics in Oakland. He had been sitting at 1,599 career RBI entering the game. He is now ranked 21st all time in baseball history in HR and 33rd in RBI.
On Sunday, Pujols became the fifth player in MLB history to have twelve seasons with 100 RBI by age 35. The list is impressive:
Players, by the age of 35, with 12 100-RBI seasons:
- Jimmie Foxx
- Lou Gehrig
- Albert Pujols
- Alex Rodriguez
- Al Simmons
Only Pujols and Simmons had twelve in their first fourteen seasons.
The home run was his 28th of the season. With five more games, can he get to 30 on the year? Tonight he tied Wade Boggs with 1,513 Runs scored (65th All Time) and passed Jim Thome with 4,668 Total Bases (37th All Time) in his career.
Albert is 34 years old and is reaching marks in his 14th baseball season that players reached in their 19th and 20th seasons at age 38 and 39.For all the talk about him fading, watching that HR (HERE IS A LINK) might make you think he has a lot of gas left in that tank.
