Late last night, while most of us were getting ready for bed, or were already asleep and dreaming of Mike Trout getting back-to-back MVP awards, the Angels were announcing a new front office hire as well as some other moves within the organization.
First up, the team let it be known that Steve Martone, formerly of the Yankees, had been hired as the team's new assistant GM. Martone had been with the Yankees since 2007, worked under new GM Billy Eppler(who was the assitant GM himself in New York), and was most recently their manager of professional scouting. With the former assistant GMs leaving to greener pastures(Scott Servais to Seattle, Matt Klentak to Philadelphia), it was a position that Eppler would have to fill eventually, and now he's got a Yankee compadre at his side again.
Next up, the Angels announced that they were doing some coaching staff shuffling, and that anthropomorphized windmill Gary DiSarcina will be moving from 3B to 1B coach. No more unnecessarily waving Albert Pujols home...the end of an era. The rest of the coaching staff is still being tweaked, it sounds like, but we know that Alfredo Griffin and Dino Ebel aren't going anywhere, and that Dino isn't going back to 3B. So a new 3B coach announcement will be on the horizon.
