ladies and Gents of Halos Heaven this deal I'm about to propose to you will blow you away, just hit me with some feedback on it.
The Los Angeles Angels acquire Second Baseman Danny Valencia and Outfielder Andrew Lambo in exchange for Starting Pitchers CJ Wilson and Tyler Skaggs and Outfielder Chad Hinshaw
now, before you start throwing your phone at the nearest wall, let me explain this to you.
Valencia costs about $3.6m this coming season and he can play second third and left field (all major positions of need) and Lambo is a solid power depth piece. Wilson is essentially also part of your return in this trade as the A's are taking the entirety of this contract (as they have stated, payroll is no issue).
looking at Oakland's return, Skaggs has no spot at this point and is high risk as he is coming off of injury. He's behind Weaver, Richards, Shoemaker, Santiago and Tropeano and there are plenty of cheap vet options for depth, you'll certainly have the money for it. Hinshaw is good, but he's 25 and was in AA for the first time last season. at this point, he won't see the majors until he's 26-27 and is a risk, but considering you are getting a controllable, inexpensive middle of the order versatile bat and the opportunity to sign a major piece like Upton or Cespedes by clearing that money off of the payroll, Hinshaw and Skaggs.
So lets evaluate the baseline deal one last time
