The presumed opening day starter for the Angels, Jered Weaver, is getting into the groove. After a lousy start in his last Cactus League outing he tinkered with his mechanics and his outing today bore fruit. His five strikeouts in five innings pitched revealed an athlete at the top of his game - the body is still able to adapt to experimentation and the mind is wise enough to entertain options.
Weaver's 5 Ks against the Rangers led the Halos to a 5-3 win over Texas. The Halos scored four runs in the fourth inning as Chris Iannetta hit his first homer of the Spring. Chris was one of two everyday players to start in the game.
Opening Day is three weeks from today down to the same start time as today's contest: 1:10 PM on the west coast... but it will be in Seattle, Washington against the Mariners. The Weave has three more starts in the Cactus league and then will pitch on five day's rest due to the April 5 Off Day before the 55th season of Angels baseball commences on Modnay April 6.
If today was any indication, it will be a fun team to watch even if we get the B-Team.
