Congratulations to Virginia's Cavaliers on their first national title, and the first champion to come out of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 60 years!
While Josh Sborz earned Most Outstanding Player honors, Kenny Towns was on all sides of tonight's victory. He walked and scored a run on Pavin Smith's home run in the top of the fourth, and then added an RBI single to stretch a Cavalier lead to 4-2 in the seventh. But his best contribution was undoubtedly his glove. In the bottom of the fourth, with a man on third, Towns stole an extra-base RBI hit from Vandy's Tyler Campbell that would have given them the lead.
The Angels selected Towns with their 20th pick in the 2015 draft, and he is one of only three unsigned draftees remaining from that draft (Jerry Dipoto's son doesn't count). As a college senior, there's optimism that he'll ink before the deadline. He's been a constant force in the run up to the finals, with bat and glove both.
Follow him on Twitter at @KTowns9 and encourage him to sign with your Halos!
