Angels Farm Daily 6/28: Taylor Ward Workin' Through The Weekend

New, comments

Taylor Ward put on an absolute offensive display this past weekend. He even stole two bases! A catcher who prevents AND provides stolen bases? Yes, please.

Box Scores for Friday, June 26, 2015 here. Burlington Bees starter Austin Robichaux continued his hot streak by shutting out the Beloit Snappers (OAK) over six innings, and reliever Jonah Wesely struck out four en route to recording a 2.1-inning hold. Salt Lake Bees starter Drew Rucinski recorded a win and lowered his ERA to 5.43 when he gave up two earned runs and struck out eight over 6.2 solid innings. Inland Empire 66ers second-baseman Kody Eaves went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Taylor Ward went 4-for-5 from the cleanup spot, blasting a solo shot, stealing a base and scoring a run in a 9-7 win over the Ogden Raptors (LA).

Box Scores for Saturday, June 27, 2015 here. C.J. Cron hit his sixth big fly of the year in an 8-6 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes (COL). Keynan Middleton led the Burlington Bees to a win over the Beloit Snappers by throwing 5.2 innings of one-run ball. Orem Owlz catcher Taylor Ward went 3-for-4 and stole a base in a heartbreaking walkoff loss to the Ogden Raptors. The AZL Royals destroyed the AZL Angels, 16-5, but Josh Rutledge hit a home run as part of his rehab assignment, so there's that.

Spotlight On A Stat Line (Or Two)

Taylor Ward (6/26 - 6/27): 7-for-9, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 2 SB

Kyle Survance, Jr. (6/28): 3-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 R

Spotlight Game

Class A Advanced: Inland Empire 66ers

Sean Newcomb took the mound yesterday and did a really nice job. He pitched five innings, gave up one earned run on five hits, walked two and struck out six. Although he was saddled with the loss, he still lowered his ERA to 3.14. Pitch efficiency continues to be an issue, as those five innings took Duke 88 pitches to complete. Alan Busenitz came on in relief and gave up three earned runs on four hits and two walks. Since the offense couldn't do much of anything, that was all the Stockton Ports (OAK) needed to secure the win.

Roberto Baldoquin (SS) recorded a single, and Caleb Adams (RF) hit a triple, ultimately scoring on a single by Bo Way (CF), who went 2-for-4. More often than not, one extra-base hit and a bunch of singles isn't gonna get it done in professional ball.
