TuesdoLinks: Victorino in 2015 is now assured!

As the trade deadline looms and big names are landing nearby in every direction, we need to keep pace. So it's moments like these that remind us all of the price to be paid for weak farm systems...

I am fast becoming a huge tiki-phile, indulging in the growing global resurgence of interest in that distinctly American mid-century modality of tropical fascination. It was a time when returning war vets from the Pacific theater, and Americans of all sorts  welcoming Hawaii to the Union, drove architects and restauranteurs and car wash owners and laundromats and landscapers and chainsaw artists into thematic frenzies. That kitsch is fast becoming valuable artifacts of an important cultural phase in our history. Major collections have been museum showings in Europe. Retrospective documentaries are coming out of production houses with regularity. So I promise to work very hard at refraining from turning the amazing gift that is Shane Victorino into yet another cheap cliche.

Yeah. As if...

Let's go to the links!

Angels Baseball

Steve Finley: The Angels acquired Victor Shanorino and payroll subsidies from the Bent Odors Sox yesterday in exchange for Jet Roshludge. Or something like that. The good news is that Bill Stonewall is hot after more of these blockbusters. The bad news is that getting to this particular blockbuster burned up all but the final 4 days left for non-waiver trades. The worse news is that Mike Scioscia has come home from the thrift store with a used, but still posable, Gritty Veteran Action Figure with which to play incessantly. But, hey, at least we are sending thunderous shock waves in the direction of Houston and Kansas City, trumping their recent actions...........Meanwhile, Victorino sez goodbye, now needs to update his twitter profile..............

Geneology: Yesterday Angels G.M. Bill Stoneman brings Shane Victorino to the Angels in exchange for Josh Rutledge.....Josh Rutledge was obtained from the Rockies last December by Jerry Dipoto in exchange for Jairo Diaz...Diaz was an international signing brought in to the Angels organization in 2007......by Angels G.M Bill Stoneman.............

Jered Weaver: Weaver makes a rehab start with the 66ers this Thursday. He should check in with Sean Newcomb and say hello to his future............

Trout Porn: Some East Coast love "Trout’s 31 homers, 75 runs and 10 steals would be impressive numbers through September, let alone through July. Last year only Trout and Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins reached those totals for the entire season."...............Daily hometown Trout update................In advance of this week's upcoming AL West Leadership Summit, Houston begs for Trout to stop being so heroic, so that they can get some love................Anybody else notice that Mike's giant bobblehead is not wearing Mike's signature Nike Lunar Vapors?

Elsewhere in Baseball

Stopping Short: While we were fast busy making waves in the media by acquiring oft-injured Victorino, the Rockies sent off LaTroy Hawkins to the Blue Jays in exchange for Jose Reyes, prospect Miguel Castro, and other to be named later. The Blue Jays also picked up as a thrown-in the oft-injured Troy Tulowitzki. This is the same Tulo that was not going anywhere. The price? Jose Reyes ("likely to be flipped") and more minor league prospects (the full list will show up after I go to bed tonight so look it up for yourself in the morning).  This makes Carlos Gonzalez the hot ticket on the market now. Laugh all you want, but Cargo appears to be back. Since May 26th, the dude has a slash line of .326 / .361 / .640 / 1.002 with 14 home runs................Fun with small numbers: Tulo has had a total of 11 at-bats in Rogers Centre, with 2 hits. Both hits went for home runs..............Methinks this is going to cause Yankee fans fits. We know Mark Teixeira is pissed..............

Closed for Business: The A's sent their closer, Tyler Clippard, out of the AL West to the chagrin of all the rest of us. because he hasn't really done too well against our division..............With Clippard gone, Beane should have the Zobrist experiment next up for termination..................

Omnivorous. Or maybe just plain Omni: PETA is pitching vegan ballpark menus, celebrating their Top 10. One team of interest did not make the list............... After blowing up the Nationals ballpark, Taylor Swift has been pushed out in Houston. The Astros have high hopes for October...............There Will Come Soft Rains. Nothing more needs to be said.............The Dodgers are willing to give up on Trout-Lite................Now that Ernie Banks is gone, I guess it's time to start shredding his legacy................Excellent emergency updating of Johnny Cueto's uniform post-trade................Someday the Yankees will have retired so many jersey numbers, they will need to go this route.............So you want unbundling of cable packages? Disney might want to chat with you.............
