New GM Candidates, Ross Atkins, Mike Hazen and Tony LaCava, Added To The Mix

Currently the VP of player personnel for the Cleveland Indians, Atkins was recently interviewed by the Angels, and Red Sox AGM Mike Hazen will be interviewed shortly. Oh yeah, and Tony LaCava, Toronto's AGM, was also interviewed today.

Yup, that's right, we're in the Ross Atkins business now!

A pitcher for Cleveland from 1995 to 1999 (LINK), Atkins was named the director of player development for the Indians in 2006, after having served as the director of Latin American operations for three years prior. In his development role, he oversaw all aspects of player development, including Cleveland's six minor-league affiliates, as well as their Latin American program in the Dominican Republic. In 2014, Atkins was promoted to VP of player personnel. All in all, Ross Atkins has been a part of the Indians organization for over 15 years. He has also received praise from Cleveland's GM Chris Antonetti, who sees him as a future GM candidate. Well, the future is now, apparently.

Here is a video of Atkins discussing the Indians. It should give you a sense of his style, so to speak (LINK). I don't know, is he more or less charismatic than, say, Jerry Dipoto or Tony Reagins? He's certainly got a great hair helmet.

UPDATE: As ihearhowie2.0 posted in the comments, the Angels are also going to be interviewing Boston's Asst. General Manager Mike Hazen. Mike DiGiovanna has the tweet here.

UPDATE TWO: Buster Olney just tweeted that the Toronto Blue Jays' Asst. General Manager, Tony LaCava, was also interviewed by the Angels' brain trust today.
