Sources: NYY assistant GM Billy Eppler expected to be a strong frontrunner for the Angels GM job, as the process plays out.

Who? Oh, Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler, that's who! Eppler was hired by Yankees GM Brian Cashman back in 2005, to totally restructure and be in charge of their scouting department. He is a huge stats guy, and was actually a finalist for the Angels GM job in 2011, but ultimately they went with now-resigned Jerry Dipoto. He has the chops, if you ask baseball execs around the league, and he has the analytics and scouting/player development knowledge.
But what PAGE is he on? Is he open to being on the same page as Mike Scioscia and Arte Moreno? They could just be exploring any and all options before going back to their two in-house candidates, Matt Klentak and Scott Servais, but the fact that he was close to getting the GM gig back in 2011 leads me to believe they see something in Eppler.
