Monday Morning Mayhem: Angels win another series & prepare for Dodger invasion

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning. It's me, Mayhem.

I hope you're enjoying your Labor Day weekend...perhaps you saw some Angels baseball over the weekend, and if you did, you saw them win a series against the Rangers and you most likely know that they're 2.5 games back from the second wild card spot. The Angels pitchers made lots of mistakes, but walked away relatively unscathed. Mike Trout a home run, breaking his 27 game trout bomb drought. Good stuff. But now the Angels have a big time enemy at the gates: the Dodgers. Not only that, but they'll be seeing both Clayton Kershaw AND Zack Greinke.

The holiday party aint over. Not by a long shot. We have some heavy baseball on the docket, but first, let's review the weekend a bit:

Albert Pujols and Matt Shoemaker had surprise boo boos over the weekend. Albert Pujols is getting an MRI today but will continue to DH either way; Shoemaker is expected to miss a start.

Mike Scioscia thinks the data on Mike Trout's fielding prowess is a bunch of malarkey.

Shane Victorino is settling into a bench role. He also spent his weekend running into the left field wall, face first, and also hosting a BBQ for players on Sunday night. He's a cool dude like that.

We learned more about Johnny Giavotella's fourth nerve palsy, including his outlook on getting back to the baseball diamond.

Elsewhere in Baseball

20 years ago, the Orioles beat the Angels. Oh, and Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive games mark. 'Memba that?

Baseball Twitter was on fire over the weekend with Matt Harvey takes. See, everyone started freaking out that Mets' pitcher Matt Harvey would shut down due to a pitch limit. Everybody got mad. He had some really rad press. Then he wrote an article himself about the whole matter, in which he said he'd pitch in the playoffs no matter what. Most people left shouting aren't really sure what they're mad about.

Kris Bryant hit the longest dinger of the year, so far. Bro.

Barry Zito made his last appearance EVER last night. Adios, Barry.

Bartolo Colon pulled off an amazing play. Again. WTF.
