Cow Tipping - Angels farm report 5/18/16

Kipper barely misses perfect game for the Travelers and settles for a no-hitter

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports
Affiliate Teams (from AAA to Rookie):

Orem Owls start June 17th, 2016.
DSL and ARZ Angels rookie teams start in June TBD.

Burlington Bees
Burlington, Iowa
Level = A, Midwest League

Studs:

Grayson Long (#6 BBA Prospect), has struck out 21 in his last 15 innings.  He last pitched Saturday and allowed just 2 hits and no runs over 5IP, along with 8Ks.
Adam Hofacket (RHP) has converted all 5 of his save opportunities with a 2.95ERA and 20K in 18.1 IP with only 2 walks.
Angelo Amendolare (2B) Batting .342 his last 10 games and has a .404OBP on the season.
Zach Welz (OF) has only NOT been on base in 4 games out of  37 and has a very impressive .420OBP, along with 5SB (in 6 attempts).

Duds:

Jaime Barria (#9 BBA Prospect), had given up only 2 walks his first 23 IP this year, but issued 5 in just his last 10 IP.  Not sure what happened in his last two games, but he's still having a pretty good year despite that.
Joe Gatto (2nd round pick, 2014), gave up 7ER in 3.1IP his last time out.  He has a 1.86 WHIP, .292BAA, and 6.40ERA on the season.

Inland Empire 66ers
San Bernardino, CA
Level = A+, California League

The 66ers suck this year, but they have some good players (mostly pitching), and whole bunch of hitting duds.

Studs:

Tyler Carpenter (RHP) Got the loss his last two starts but his April was phenomenal.  He was named one of the Angels Organizational Players of the Month in April.
Jake Jewell (#5 BBA Prospect), Allowed only 1 ER in his last two starts.  12IP, 16K, 4BB, 8H.  Has had a bad season though and sits at a 7.24 ERA on the year.  Hopefully these last two starts are a sign of better things to come.
Eduardo Paredes (RHP), has given up just 2 ER in his last 13IP but blew a save last night.  He has 30K in 20IP on the season with a 3.60ERA.  Over his last 10 games he has just a 1.38ERA.
Jason Hope (RHP), was signed by the Rangers in 2014 and traded to the Angels last season.  He just came out of extended spring training and has 7K through 5IP in 2 games with only 1 walk and no hits allowed.
Ronald Muck (RHP) Has given up 0 ER over his last 5 games in 9IP and has struck out 12.

Tim Arakawa (OF) just snapped his 21 game hitting streak a few days ago.  He's still hitting .299 for the season with an .366 OBP

Duds:

Roberto Baldoquin (SS) is on the DL AGAIN after coming back and playing just two games (he went 0 for 8).
Angels Rosa (3B) is hitting .133 his last 10 games and .152 on the season.
Wade Wass (C) has struggled lately and is now .094 in his last 10, dropping his season average to .173.  He was recently assigned to the 66ers from the Travelers in a swap with Jose Briceno
Trevor Allen (OF) has a measly .037 AVG his last 10 games (only 1 hit) and 12 Ks
Ryan Sebra (1B) batting an even .100 his last 10 games and .158 on the season.

Arkanas Travelers
Little Rock, Arkansas
Level = AA, Texas League

Ultra-Stud:

Jordan Kipper (RHP), The Angels drafted Kipper with the majors in mind.  He does have a high K rate, but last night he struck out 8 and landed his first career no-hitter (give up just one walk to the first batter).  After walking that first batter, he got a strikeout, then induced a double play, followed by retiring the final 26 in a row.

Studs:

Victor Alcantara (RHP - #4 BBA Prospect), pitched 5 shutout innings in Tulsa on Saturday, allowing on 1 walk and 4 hits.
Tyler DeLoach (LHP), has an impressive 0.66 ERRA over his last 13.2 IP, and has struck out 17 and walked 3 during that time.  He has a 2.11ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 2016.
Jose Briceno (C), was promoted from the 66ers to the Travelers on Monday and was the other Organization Player of the Month for April.  During April he threw out 37% of base runners and recorded 19 assists.  At the plate, he's only hitting .238 so far in 2016.

Duds:

Anthony Bemboom
(C), is hitting .151 in 2016 and .147 through his last 10 games.

Salt Lake Bees
Salt Lake City, Utah
Level = AAAA, Pacific Coast League

The Salt Lake Bees are #1 in the Texas League with a 22-15 record

Studs:
Kyle Kendrick (RHP),
has only given up 2ER in his last 10 IP (2 starts).  During those starts, he's walked only 1, given up 9 hits and struck out 13.
Cody Satterwhite (RHP) Made up for getting shelled to the tune of 6ER in .1 inning by pitching his next 6.1 while allowing 0 runs and just 3 hits and 2 walks.
Lucas Luetge (LHP), has been lights out in 2016.  He has a 1.53 ERA on the season and .64 over is last 10 appearances with 14IP and 11K.
Nate Smith (RHP - #3 BBA Prospect) Smith is still doing Smithy things.  He's only had one bad start so far and has a 3.54 ERA, .247BAA and 1.16WHIP this seaon.
Al Alburquerque (RHP)  6 for 6 in save opportunities with 15K, 14IP and .222BAA.  He picked up 3 more saves in the past week.

Nick Buss (OF)  Is batting .395 over his last 10 games.  He's been playing well all year and probably just waiting for his call up (he bats left).  Buss has a .343/.391/.584 line in 2016.
Todd Cunningham (OF) This guy is on fire and hitting .417 with 4SB over his last 10 games.  Not a lot of power here, but he also has a .450 OBP this season, so he's pretty much always on base (In fact - he has only missed being on base in 4 games so far).  Both he and Nick Buss are ruling the outfield for the Bees and helping keep them atop the standings.
Kaleb Cowart (3B - #8 BBA Prospect), has been hot and hitting .341 over his last 10, raising his season AVG to .292 with a .350 OBP.

Duds:

Kyle Kubitza (3B) Was heating up a few weeks ago, but is only hitting .194 over his last 10 games.  He does have a .372 OBP for the season.
Zach Nuding (RHP), has been pretty horrible in 2016.  7.75ERA with a .324BAA so for this year.

Others:

Sherman Johnson (2B), was moved up to the Bees on May 3rd and started out slow.  He is hitting .156 for Salt Lake but is 5 for is last 18, so may be heating up and/or getting used to AAA pitching.
Kyle McGowin (RHP), was moved up the Bees on May 4th.  He has a 3.09 ERA and a 1-1 record in his two AAA starts.
