HumpLinks: A Cron-ic case of Bombs away!

Anaheim misplaced the Marine Layer last night, and 9 home runs were launched over 9 innings, culminating with C.J. Cron's 2-run walk-off for an 11-9 victory.

Anaheim misplaced the Marine layer last night. 9 home runs were hit by 8 different players. 17 of the 20 runs scored last night - including all 9 runs scored by Detroit - came off the long ball. Chicks were digging it.

C.J. Cron opened the LAA scoring with a 2-run homer in the 2nd, and finished all scoring wiht a walk-off 2-run homer in the 9th. And some of the lines in the boxscore are amazing. Kole Calhoun was 3 for 4 withe 1 walk and 3 runs scored. Mike Trout was 2 for 3 with 2 walks and 3 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Jefry Marte was 4 for 4 (Marte being fresh off the plane!). Cliff Pennington was 3 for 4 (Pennington pulled a hammy is back to the DL). And C.J. Cron was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 5 RBI's! Digging deeper, only 3 Detroit hitters left anybody on base, each of those a single runner. on our tally, Albert Pujols and Rafael Ortega and Carlos Perez each stranded 4 runners on base and STILL the Halos scored 11 runs.

Also being misplaced was Mike Scioscia's strategy coloring book last night? The one that states, on Page 3, that a Joe Smith would be mandatory for 8th-inning relief and Huston Street would be mandatory for 9th-inning closer. Instead we got Fernando Salas out there in the 8th to greet us. My guess is that Mike realized that this book was missing right at the moment Victor Martinez' game-tying home run cleared the fence. (Smith was not hurting. He was...um..."down".)

Everywhere In Baseball

Trout: Arte is wasting Mike Trout. Blah blah blah blah. You know what? I cannot pick up my remote and dial up a Baltimore game and watch Manny Machado' brilliance. Nor can I whip up a Nationals game and be amazed by Bryce Harper or hit a pre-set and be dazzled by Andrew McCutcheon. Not without going through all the rigamarole of subscribing to MLB-TV and redirecting my streaming off the Internet to my TV. Seriously. As long as MLB is restraining fan access from their product to the extent that people cannot access it as easily as they can The Ellen DeGeneris Show, MLB is going to have people miss out on the chance to appreciate all the greatness they have playing their game. It's not just Mike Trout...........

M.A.S.H.: As I wrote above, Cliff Pennington is headed back to the DL with a torn hamstring............But Andrelton Simmons is tracking to return in 3 weeks, matching the best-case scenario..............

Needy: You probably saw all that mashing that the Tigers did last night. They can still do that. So it might seem odd to see them on the same list as the Angels as among the three franchises neediest to draft some offense in a couple of weeks............

Ethics: It's never too late to close the barn door on personal privacy. It appears that MLB teams are driving with full force into the use of biometric devices to track data on player body health. The objective is to be able to use that data to tune performance. The reality is that such data is ripe for abuse. We are well down the road to ruin with the pernicious abuse of tracking data already. HIPPA exists to protect personal health information just to keep such things out of the hands of profiteers. And it belongs to the person, not the business. This is an ethical conversation that needs to be had right now..............

Crazy Talk: UniWatch really, really, really hates camo. I mean, to the point of irrationality: "...yet another talking head who conflates Memorial Day with being a “military holiday.” FFS. STOP IT ALREADY".   Uh, really? Not a military holiday??...............

Baseball Biz: Here we go. It was only a matter of time before balls of brass showed up a the public trough in the fairy tale story that is the Giants and their ballpark. That day is today. The Giants are requesting a LOWERING of city tax rates because - get this!! - the value of their San Francisco water-front real estate has gone down in value. Yeah, this is the same San Francisco where real estate prices have actually doubled over the past 4 years. That would make that parcel of land under the ballpark the only place in San Francisco suffering some kind of real estate slump. Keep in mind, the city gifted that land to the Giants in the first place, and the Giants were getting a full tax exemption for at least the first 5 years of existence. But now, after also being gifted a bunch of public works and civic support for the facility, and drawing about 3.3 million fans per year, and owning the territorial rights to all of Northern California, the Giants have found an excuse to return to the public trough and drink heavily...........

The Duffle Bag

Francisco Lindor, bringing new meaning to the concept of trippin'...............Christian Bethancourt, San Diego catcher,  was called upon to pitch in yesterday's 4-16 fiasco against the Mariners. And Bethancourt might have thrown the fastest pitch pitched in MLB all day............Royals fans are at it again, outstripping all other fan bases at stuffing the ballot box for All-Stars.............Yeppers. Jose Bautista agrees with what the rest of us also saw. Rougned Odor was trying to nail Bautista in the face with his relay throw to first base.................They were hitting a few home runs on Colorado last night, too. And that included another grand slam. So if Papa Johns give us all 40% off today for one grand slam last night, do we get 80% off because of two??...............I have seen, on a few occasions, when a player has hit out of turn by one slot in the batting order. I have never, ever, heard of any case where a guy was trying to bat FIVE WHOLE SLOTS early..............Bryce Harper, dogging it and getting burned...............K-Rod might be a better source on Zika information than the World Health Organization...........
