New, 22 comments

Last year's 23rd round pick is already in Salt Lake

Affiliate Teams (from AAA to Rookie):

Orem Owls start June 17th, 2016.
DSL and ARZ Angels rookie teams start in June TBD.

Burlington Bees
Burlington, Iowa
Level = A, Midwest League

The Bees are hovering around the .500 mark right now

Studs:

Joe Gatto (2nd round pick, 2014), managed back to back great starts his last two trips to the mound.  In his last 10 innings, he's allowed only 1 walk, 3 ER, and struck out 11.
Jhonny Polanco (RHP), since the beginning of June, he has pitched 7 innings and allowed only 1 run on 2 hits with 6 Ks.  He was picked up from the Pawtucket Red Sox after they released him in April.
Eric Karch (RHP), has not given up a run his last 4 appearances.  He has pitched 6 innings and allowed only 1 walk and 5 hits with 7Ks.  Karch was signed as a free agent on June 2.
Jared Ruxer (RHP), hasn't given up more than 2 runs all season.  He's only done that once.  Otherwise, in his other 11 starts he's given up 0 or 1 run.  His ERA on the year is 1.28.    He has a 1.10 ERA over his last 10 games.

[Moving up!] Michael Hermosillo
(LF) was called up to the Bees from Orem on June 3rd.  This 28th round draft pick is hitting .363 with a HR his last 6 games.
Alex Rivera (OF), is hitting .333 over his last 10 games and currently has a 5 game hitting streak where he is batting .420.  He has a .345/.377/.483 line for the year which started for him on May 27th.  He was signed as a minor league free agent back in March.
Angelo Amendolare (2B), has a 9 game hitting streak going and a .400 average during that time.  He was activated on May 30th and has a .434 OBP this year.

Duds:

Jake Yacinich (SS - #26 in MLB Pipeline) is hitting just .190 his last 10 games and is 0 for his last 13.  He only has 2 walks in 101 AB this year.

Others:
Jaime Barria (#9 BBA Prospect),  HIs walk rate is way down, but he had a bit of a rough time his last two starts, giving up 6 ER in 8 innings while allowing 12 hits and only striking out 2.
Grayson Long (#6 BBA Prospect),  He went on the 7-day DL May 30 (not sure why)

Inland Empire 66ers
San Bernardino, CA
Level = A+, California League

It's no surprise there is not much good going on for the 66ers since they have the worst record in the California League, and nearly in all of High A ball.  This team is pretty horrible all around.

Studs:

Adam Hofacket (RHP - #29 in MLB Pipeline) this recent addition from A ball has only given up 1 hit, 2 walks, and zero ER his last 6 IP in 4 appearances. Hofacket has a 2.25 ERA in 2016, a 0.91 WHIP, and has only allowed 4 walks in 32 IP.
[Moving up!] Kevin Grendell (LHP)  Moved up from the Bees on June 3rd.  Has a 1.93 ERA and .167 BAA in his 4.2 innings with the 66ers.

Ayendy Perez (CF) is hitting .344 over his last 10 games and has a .340 OBP on the season.  He has a 31% K rate though.
Wade Wass (C) Caught up to high A pitching finally.  He has an 8-game hitting streak where he batting .367.

Duds:

Josh Delph (OF), was assigned to the 66ers from the Bees on May 31.   He's hitting just .167 in his stint there so far
Hutton Moyer (2B), just batting .154 over his last 10 games with a staggering 21 Ks in 39 AB.  Who has a 53% K rate??? His A ball K rate before being called up was 21%.
Zach Welz (OF), just another struggling 66er who has a 30% K rate and a .179 AVG over his last 10 games.
Roberto Baldoquin (SS) is back from the DL and has gone 2 for 12 since returning.
David Fletcher (SS) is only hitting .165 this year, and .200 in his last 10 games.  The 66ers don't seem to have a SS that can hit.

Garrett Nuss (RHP), this 7th round pick has given up 8 ER in his 6 innings pitched.  He's also walked 8 in his two starts so far.
Jake Jewell (#5 BBA Prospect) His rough year continues.  He gave up 18 hits, 2 walks, and 5 ER in his last 11 innings (2 starts).

Others:

Taylor Ward (C - #1 BBA Prospect)  Is hitting a whopping .231 his last 10 games which is actually an improvement.  He has hits in 7 of his last 9 games.
Jeremy Rhoades (RHP - #17 in MLB Pipeline) Had a great 7 inning start, allowing only 1 ER his last time out.  However, the two times before he gave up 14 runs and 18 hits in 10.1 IP.

Arkanas Travelers
Little Rock, Arkansas
Level = AA, Texas League

Studs:

Jordan Kipper (RHP) - not sure why he only pitched 3.2 innings his last time out, but over his last 2 games, he's only allowed 1 ER in 10.2 IP with 8 Ks.  He pitched 7 shutout innings back on June 8th, allowing only 2 hits.
[Moving up!] Josh Roenicke (RHP) moved up from the 66ers on June 13th.  In his first game with the Travelers, he pitched one inning and struck out the side.  In 18 IP this year, he has a .161 BAA, 20Ks, and 1.00 WHIP.
Edward Paredes (RHP),  continues to rock n roll since being moved up for High A on May 23rd.  In his last 4 appearances, he has allowed ZERO hits, ZERO walks, and ZERO runs.  His ERA this year in 1.00 in 18 IP and he has struck out 25.
Tony Scriber (RHP) Struck out 12 and gave up 0 ERs over his last 11.2 innings and 2 starts.
Alan Busenitz (RHP), hasn't given up an ER in his last 10 appearances.  In those games, he has 13.1 IP, 15Ks, 13 hits and zero walks.  Impressive, considering half of those games were in a hitter-friendly ballpark.

Jose Briceno (C) is 15 -for-17 in catching base stealers (88.2%).  He's only hitting .235 on the season though, so with that batting average and those behind-the-plate skills, I imagine he's a favorite for Scioscia to fast track.
Alex Yarbrough (2B - #29 in MLB pipeline) is hitting .365 over his last 10 games and has a 5-game hitting streak.

Duds:

Chad Hinshaw (CF - #9 in MLB Pipeline) Went on the DL June 11th, which may be a good thing for him. This one time top prospect has a 32% K rate in 2016 with a .191 AVG
Caleb Adams (RF - #20 in MLB Pipeline) struggling to adjust since his call up and is hitting just .179 in AA.
Stephen McGee (C), nothing to see here.  Just another catcher in our org who can't hit.  He's batting .174 this year and .182 over his last 10.

Others:

[Moving up!] Forrestt Allday (RF), is 3-for-12 in his 3 games with the the Travelers so far.

Victor Alcantara (RHP - #4 BBA Prospect), having a pretty mediocre season.  Not great and not horrible.  3.88 ERA his last 10 starts with 31Ks and 16 walks over 51 innings.

Salt Lake Bees
Salt Lake City, Utah
Level = AAA, Pacific Coast League

The Salt Lake Bees, once in first place, are now hovering around the .500 mark in third place.

Ultra-Stud:

[Moving up!] Tim Arakawa (IF/OF), was named to the California League All Star Game on June 8th, and called up to the Bees on June 11th.  He skipped right over AA ball.  Arakawa was drafted in round 23 just last year, so that is a pretty meteoric rise to AAA, especially for a lower round pick.  He is 23 and played college ball which helps.  In his Bees debut on 6/11, he went 2 for 3 with a walk.

Studs:

Nate Smith (RHP - #3 BBA Prospect) Bounced back from a rough outing by taking a nearly perfect game into the 9th inning on June 4th.  In his last two outings, he's pitched 13.2 innings and allowed 6 ER with 11 Ks and zero walks.
[Moving up!] Tyler DeLoach (LHP), found himself in Salt Lake after putting up great numbers in AA.  In his first inning pitched for the Bees, he got all three outs by only throwing 5 pitches.  This 26th round pick in 2012 is making his case for a big league roster spot.  His minor league career ERA is 3.75 with a 1.25 WHIP and 424Ks in 401 IP.

[Moving up!] Cal Towey
(OF) is having himself a good year.  He was hitting .292/.402/.464 for Arkansas before getting bumped up on 6/11.  He's 4-for-12 in his 4 games with Salt Lake.

Ji-Man Choi (LF) has 2 HRs and 8 RBIs in his last 10 games.

Duds:

Chris Jones (LHP), continues to stink it up for Salt Lake.  He gave up 11 more ER in his last two starts and managed to pitch just 8.1 innings with 4 walks and 17 hits.  His ERA climbed from 6.32 in our last report to 7.16 on the year.

Others:

Kyle Kendrick (RHP), has pitched 23 innings in his last 3 starts.  He's been a workhorse, even though he allowed 4 ER on June 6th.
[Moving up!] Blayne Weller (RHP) allowed 4 ER in his first start as a Bee on Tuesday.  Blame it on the altitude.  He did pitch 5 innings and threw 44 of his 68 pitches for strikes.
Greg Mahle (LHP) gave up a run, got a blown save AND a win in his first appearance back as Bee.
Nick Buss (LF) is on the DL
