Angels fans need something to be positive about. There is good prospect news within! (and some bad)

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports
Affiliate Teams (from AAA to Rookie):

Orem Owls, DSL and ARZ Angels rookie team players will also  be covered in the bi-monthly 2016 draftee update.

AZL Angels
Tempe, AZ
Level = Rok, Arizona League

Studs:

Ryan Vega (OF, 19), Vega was drafted last year and started out hot in 2016 with a .500 AVG over 6 games.  He also has 2 triples, 2 stolen bases, and leads the Arizona league in batting.

Duds:

Nonie Williams (SS, 18), It's still early but this year's 3rd round draft pick only has 2 hits in 14AB and both of those came in his last game when he went 2-for-4.  He's batting .143 with 6Ks so is adjusting to rookie ball still.

DSL Angels
Dominican Republic
Level = Rok, Dominican League

Studs:

Leonardo Rivas (SS, 18), Rivera has a .500 OBP in 17 games, along with 10 SB and 12 walks.  He has the 3rd best OBP in the league and is 3rd in stolen bases as well.
Hector Yan (LHP, 17) , Yan has pitched 4 games, 18 innings, and has yet to allow an earned run.  He is one of 2 starters in the Dominican League with a 0.00 ERA.

Orem Owlz
Orem, UT
Level = Rok, Pioneer League

Super Studs:

Brennon Lund (OF, 21), Lund took off like wildfire in the Pioneer League.  He is batting .576 with a .641 OBP.  He also has 2 home runs and 2 stolen bases.  On Tuesday he went 4 for 5.  He's leading the league in hitting by about 75 points, and OBP by well over 100 points.  He is second in stolen bases and slugging as well. If he keeps putting up video game numbers, he may end up in Burlington before too long.

Studs:

Jordan Zimmerman (2B, 21), is hitting .436 with a .641 slugging. He has 11 RBIs and 2 home runs in 9 games.

Others:

Jahmai ones (OF - #2 BBA Prospect, 18),  Hitting only .233 this year with 7 Ks in 43 AB.
Matt Thaiss (1B, 21), Batting .304 is pretty good, but not when others in the league are putting up .400 - .500 numbers.  Still, it's better than tanking.  Thaiss also has 2 home runs in 23 AB.

Burlington Bees
Burlington, Iowa
Level = A, Midwest League

Studs:

Jaime Barria (RHP - #9 BBA Prospect),  1IP in Midwest All Star game last week.  No runs, walks or hits allowed.  Barria doesn't walk many batters and has only 10 walks through 66 IP.  His last 3 starts he has allowed 0 walks in 13 IP.  He also has a low K rate, so appears to be getting lucky, or inducing a lot of outs on batted balls.
Zach Hartman (RHP), moved up to A ball this year after a pretty good rookie season in 2015.  He hasn't allowed a run his last 6 appearances in 11 innings.  He's also struck out 7 and allowed only 2 walks and 7 hits in those 6 games.  Hartman has a 2.52 ERA this year with a 1.09 WHIP.
Luis Pena (RHP), has been hard to hit in 2016 and his BAA is only .182.  He also boasts a 2.01 ERA and 55 Ks in 44 IP.  His ERA over his last 10 appearances is only 1.32.
Jared Ruxer (RHP), hasn't given up more than 2 runs in a game all season.  He has a 1.26 ERA on the season and 50Ks in 57 IP. He struck our a season high 8 in 5 innings his last time on the mound.
Michael Hermosillo (LF) was called up to the Bees from Orem on June 3rd.  This 28th round draft pick is hitting .316 his last 10 games and has a .378 OBP on the season.
Angelo Amendolare (2B), is batting .333 his last 10 games and has a .425 OBP tin 2016.

Duds:

Joe Gatto (RHP - #7 BBA Prospect), had his worst start of the season when he gave up 7ER over just 1.2 IP. on 6/18.  He bounced back his next start, allowed only 1 run through 5, but it's been a rough year for Gatto who has a 7.03 ERA and 1.89 WHIP.
Jake Yacinich (SS - #26 in MLB Pipeline) is hitting just .140 his last 10 games and is 0 for his last 12.  He only has 3 walks in 122 AB this year.  Someone teach this kid plate discipline!
Webster Rivas (C), hitting only .171 his last 10 games and .236 this year.  He's been with the Bees for about a month out of extended spring training.

Others:

Jose Rodriguez (RHP) is having a decent year and a 3.38 ERA which even earned him a spot in the Midwest All Star Game.  Unfortunately, when he was called upon in the 4th inning, he gave up 4 ER in 0.1 IP - in a game the West would ultimately lose by only 1 run.
Jared Foster (OF), went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored in Midwest All Star Game last week.  He's batting .277 over his last 10 games.
Grayson Long (RHP - #6 BBA Prospect),  He went on the 7-day DL May 30 (not sure why) and I haven't been able to find any updates.

Inland Empire 66ers
San Bernardino, CA
Level = A+, California League

Finished the 1st half in last place, but currently in 1st place for the second half at 4-2

Studs:

Adam Hofacket (RHP - #29 in MLB Pipeline), got blown up for 4 runs and 6 hits in 1 inning of work on 6/17.  However, if you take out that game, he's only allowed 2 ER in his last 10 appearances and has struck out 18 over 12.2 IP.
Eric Alonzo (RHP), has a 1.43 ERA in 2015 and a 1.02 WHIP.  In his last 3 outings (5 IP), he's allowed zero runs on 2 hits with 5 Ks.
Nate Fury (RHP), has a 1.76 ERA over his last 10 appearances with 19 Ks in 15 IP.
Kevin Grendell (LHP)  Moved up from the Bees on June 3rd.  Has a 0.93 ERA and .152 BAA in his 9.2 innings with the 66ers.  He's only allowed 1 run in his last 9 appearances .
Wade Wass (C) He has a .406 AVG his last 10 games along with a home run and 8 RBIs.  He does only have a .234 on the year though since he struggled mightily in AA batting .162 there.
Hutton Moyer (2B), Turned his .154 and 21% K rate around to hitting .378 with a 14% K rate over his last 10 games.
Zach Houchins (3B) has a 7 game hitting streak where he's batting .483 and has improved his season AVG from .198 on June 10th to .234.
David Fletcher (SS) batting .378 over his last 10 game with 8 walks.

Duds:

Jeremy Rhoades (RHP - #17 in MLB Pipeline) Struggling this year and has a 6.31 ERA over his last 10 starts with 53 hits and 20 walks allowed in 51.1 IP
Josh Delph (OF), Hitting just .186 since he was moved up from the Bees on May 31.
Zach Welz (OF), has a satggering 39% K rate his last 10 games with a .152 AVG
Roberto Baldoquin (SS), Still can't hit with a .169 on the year and a .154 his last 10 games with 14 Ks.  This guy is frustrating considering how much he cost.

Others:

Jake Jewell (#5 BBA Prospect) Only gave up 3 ER over his last 10.2 innings, which is an improvement.  He walked 8 and gave up 10 hits as well.
Taylor Ward (C - #1 BBA Prospect)  His. 256 AVG over his last 10 games is the best he's had all year.  His walks (4) were also higher than his Ks (3) which has been rare this year.  Some signs of improvement here.
Tim Arakawa (OF) Went 1-for-2 and started a rally in the 9th for the Cal/Car All-Star Game last week.  Video below of his 9th inning All-Star Game hit:

Arkanas Travelers
Little Rock, Arkansas
Level = AA, Texas League

Studs:

Tyler Carpenter (RHP), is having a pretty good 2016.  His last 4 starts, he's only allowed 4 runs and 3 walks while striking out 13.  He started the year playing for the 66ers and has a 2.28 ERA and 1.04 WHIP this season.
Eric Aguilera (1B), batting a huge .381 over his last 10 games with 3HR and 8 RBIs.  Was a starter in the Texas League All-Star Game last night but went 0-for-2.
Eduardo Paredes (RHP), Just a 2.13 ERA over his last time appearances and brought down his 2016 ERA to 3.68

Duds:

Chad Hinshaw (CF - #9 in MLB Pipeline) Went on the DL June 11th, which may be a good thing for him. This one time top prospect has a 32% K rate in 2016 with a .191 AVG
Caleb Adams (RF - #20 in MLB Pipeline) struggling to adjust since his call up and is hitting just .193 in AA.
Stephen McGee (C), nothing to see here.  Just another catcher in our org who can't hit.  He's batting .188 over his last 10 games.
Angel Rosa (3B), is batting .143 over his last 10 games and .190 on the year with 56 Ks in 168 AB.

Others:

Victor Alcantara (RHP - #4 BBA Prospect), had his worst start of the year on 6/21 when he gave up 7ER over 4 IP.  Bounced back pretty well his last start with only 2 runs allowed over 5 innings and he struck out 7.
Edward Paredes (RHP) - Pithced .2 Innings in the Texas League All-Star Game last night, giving up 1 hit, zero runs, and zero walks.
Jordan Kipper (RHP), pitching a modest 3.52 ERA his last 10 game with 33Ks in 61 IP.  Kipper gave up 2 ER in 1.2 IP during the Texas League All-Star Game last night and was saddled with the loss.  He did strike out 2, but the 2-run HR he gave up was his undoing.  To be fair, he wasn't going to start the game, but ended up going in after the starter faced only 1 batter.

Salt Lake Bees
Salt Lake City, Utah
Level = AAA, Pacific Coast League

The Salt Lake Bees, once in first place, are now hovering around the .500 mark in third place.

Studs:

Nate Smith (RHP - #3 BBA Prospect), in his last 3 starts, has pitched 18.1 innings and allowed only 3 ERs.  He gave up 27 hits + walks in those innings which is pretty high.
[Moving up!] Alan Busenitz (RHP), hasn't given up an ER in his last 10 appearances, including the 2 since he's been with Salt Lake.  In those games, he has 13.1 IP, 15Ks, 13 hits and zero walks.  Impressive, considering half of those games were in hitter-friendly ballparks.
[Moving up!] Tyler DeLoach (LHP), found himself in Salt Lake after putting up great numbers in AA.  In 5 games for the Bees, he's allowed zero runs over 6.1 IP and has truck out 5.  He was named to the Texas League AA All Star Game but did not participate.
Cal Towey (OF) Towey is putting up better numbers in AAA than he did in AA.  Of course he is in a hitter friendly league, but still.  He's batting .342 his last 10 games with 2 home runs and 9 RBIs.
Ji-Man Choi (LF) Continues to do well in AAA.  Has a .351 AVG his last 10 games
Nick Tropeano (RHP), pitched for the Bees last night and allowed only 2 runs over 6.2 IP.  He struck out 7 and only allowed 3 hits and 1 walk.
Kyle Kendrick (RHP), In his last two starts (13 IP), has allowed only 3 ER and 2 walks while striking out 11
Jose Valdez (RHP), picked up from the Tigers on June 7th, he has only allowed 1 ER in his 8 games and 9 IP for Salt Lake.  He has a 1.00 ERA for the Bees this year.
Juan Graterol (C), is hitting .353 his last 10 games and .305 in 2016. He only has a 12% K rate this year so has been making good contact.

Duds:

David Huff (LHP), has allowed 21 hits and 12 ER in his last two starts over 12 innings of work.
Chris Jones (LHP), 13 ER in his last 10.1 innings pitched and a 7.81 ERA on the season.

Others:

Blayne Weller (RHP), isn't having a great year.  However, he landed a prime rehab spot when he got to pitch for the AZL Angels on Sunday.  He mowed down the AZL Royals and allowed 4 hits, 1 run, and 0 walks over 7 IP, while striking out 10.  Take that rookies!!
Kyle McGowin (RHP - #16 in MLB Pipeline) - McGowin has spent a whole month in Salt Lake after being called up from AA.  He has a 5.34 ERA but most of that damage came in two games against Tacoma (1st in division), and @ Reno (Hitters ballpark where he gave up 3 HR).  McGowin gave up zero runs over 6.2 innings in his last start and struck out 8.  He needs to work on his control a bit since he has 25 walks in 55 IP for the Bees.
Sherman Johnson (2B), started out slow in AAA but is hitting .233 now this year and .256 over his last 10 games.
Greg Mahle (LHP)  Has a 5.19 ERA in Salt Lake but hasn't allowed a hit or run in his last 3 appearances.
Kaleb Cowart (3B - #8 BBA Prospect), Has a .292 AVG this year and .308 over his last 10 games with 9 Ks and 5 walks.
