WeekEnd HaloLinks: Halos sail into Pirates' Bay

New, 28 comments

Mike Trout and The Flying Halos roll into Pittsburgh, marking the first visit by the Angels in over a decade. Not a single Angel was wearing a Halo back then, in 2004, so this should be a very novel experience for everyone.

Sweet! Three games in Pittsburgh for the first time since 2004. Rumor has it they got themselves a decent team there.

Have yourself a couple of rust-bucket Links:

ANGELS ON DECK

The Upcoming Series:

Los Angeles Angels @ Pittsburgh Pirates - PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PA.

Day Game Time Probable Pitchers TV
FRIDAY 4:05 PM PDT Jered Weaver (4-4, 5.40 ERA) vs. Francisco Liriano (4-4, 4.63 ERA) FS-W
SATURDAY 1:05 PM PDT Nick Tropeano (3-2, 3.25 ERA) vs. Jeff Locke (4-3, 4.33 ERA) FS-W
SUNDAY 10:35 PM PDT Jhoulys Chacin (1-1, 3.42 ERA) vs. Gerrit Cole (5-4, 2.72 ERA) FS-W

The Angels haven't been to Pittsburgh since 2004.

From the official team Game Notes:  "Jered Weaver, tonight's pitcher, was charged with loss in only career start vs. Pirates on June 21, 2013 at Angel Stadium (6 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO)."

By the way, in last night's 4-3 loss to the Marlins, the Pirates pulled Andrew McCutchen, Francisco Cervelli, David Freese and Jordy Mercer - all starters - due to health concerns. Which of these make it back out to face Weaver tonight is anybody's guess at the time of this writing..............

Everywhere In Baseball

Freak: The Tim Lincecum Experiment might need some more tuning while it remains off Broadway. His start for Salt lake last night could have gone a hell of a lot better. Just look at he started out in the bottom of the 1st against the Rainiers: single, double, walk, balk, sac fly, ground out, K. His final box line was 5 innings, 3 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks and 5 K's. Curtis Crabtree, Sports Radio KJR reporter, adds that he threw 88 pitches, with 48 of them strikes. and his fastball was clocked between 88-90mph...........

Statistical Oddities: Madison Baumgarner hit a home run in yesterday's 6-0 victory over Atlanta. This created this weird stat. Over their last 190 Plate Appearances, Madison Baumgarner, Bryce Harper and Mike Trout have all hit the same number of home runs - 11. This is true, and fun, but of course it only tells part of the story. One of these is not like the others:

BA OBP SLG OPS
Madison Baumgarner .234 .265 .439 .794
Bryce Harper .234 .402 .504 .906
Mike Trout .331 .435 .606 1.041

NCAA Tournament: The College World Series kicks off today. There will be some players featured whose names will get pulled early in the upcoming MLB draft. Don't forget to follow along in between Angels-Pirates contests. Here is your bracket page..........

Just a reminder that "Who's on First" is truly first among baseball entertainment...........

Starlin Castro is one cool cat.............

Screw it. I know that this outcome does us no favors, and I know it's only the Padres, but the Mariners came back from a 2 - 12 deficit to snatch a monumental win 16-13. That had to be incredibly fun times for Seattle fans................

At my age, I have learned to appreciate the fine details of the Annie Savoy card.............

I also am Ok with Dos Equis, But not as interesting as Erin Andrews....................

As I wrote last week, the Dodgers using laser range finders pre-game is no big deal, and the Met can GTFO with their whiny-assed shit.............

Just a friendly reminder from 6 seasons ago: this is why we have Instant Replay............

That's right, young lady. It's silly for these grown-ups to be acting so silly over somebody else's baseball...........

With the draft coming up, it's fun to see all the misses teams made when they got all excited and drafted future Mr. Nobody while future Mr. HoF was still there on the board. In this click-bait review, we don't have to go far to get our fill of LA Angels-related stories............

This most-historic Babe Ruth photo is why the world is run by lawyers................

If baseball returns to the Olympics in 2020, don't expect MLB players to be on the field. Something about conflicting with the MLB season or such.............
