Well, how about this hot stove season?! Angels and Billy Eppler waited til time was almost out before making some serious moves. First, Hector Santiago to the Twins (more on that in Jessica’s post) and now the Cubs have officially acquired reliever Joe Smith from the the Angels.
Smith had some rough patches in the first half of the 2016 season, including some time on the DL, but he’s been pretty solid since the All Star break, regardless of his current career highs in ERA and FIP. Here’s the official news of the deal:
#angels got Jesus Castillo from #cubs for Joe Smith

Jesus Castillo is a righty from the Dominican Republic, who was originally signed by the Diamondbacks in 2011 (their most expensive amateur signing that year). He had since caught the eye of Theo Epstein and was acquired by the Cubs in 2013.
He’s in his first year of Class A ball, and is currently sporting a 3.27 ERA. He’s also just 20 years old, so still time to see what they have in this guy.
