Angels and Tyler Skaggs finish the road trip strong with 5-0 win over Tigers

Angels 5 Tigers 0

Hey, look at that! Two road series wins in a row, and both were against teams that are not bad at playing baseball! Yes, a 4-2 road trip with this team is something worth celebrating like it’s a division title or something, because we just haven’t gotten to see this too often. Today’s game was solid all around, though, and quite worthy of celebration; great pitching and big hits, not much more you could want.

Tyler Skaggs bounced back from his last outing, which was a bad, bad day for him, and got back on track with 6.0 sweet innings of scoreless baseball. Skaggs was in charge the whole time, giving up just two hits in those six innings, and striking out six Tigers in the process. Not only did he shut out Detroit, but the bullpen did as well, so the Halos pitching staff can go home on a donut-serving high note.

Meanwhile, at the plate, the runs came mostly from Jefry Marte, who had both a two-run bomb AND an RBI single, but he also got some help from Andrelton Simmons and Nick Buss RBI singles. C.J. Cron had himself a three-hit day, so good stuff to see there, and the previously-mentioned Nick Buss continues to make the most of his call-up.

This one was quick and painless for the Angels, the perfect way to head back to the Big A and dig in for a series against the Reds. They now have two series wins in a row, on the road...it’s not out of the realm of reality that they keep this going back in Anaheim and finish the horrid August with a strong surge. Such is MLB baseball.
