Last Angels Series preview of 2016: Astros @ Angels (The Final Countdown)

A familiar foe joins the Angels at home for their final 3 games of 2016

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

There could be magic.  There could could be smoke.  Their probably won't be any knives or playing cards - but there definitely will be some unimpressed facial reactions (go ahead and freeze the video above at 0:11 and compare).

I guess the optimist would say that as least the Angels will be playing October baseball, right?  Well, so will 29 other teams who play though October 2nd due to the late start MLB had this season.  We all should be ready to buy our turkeys by the time the World Series wraps up this year.

Going into the last series, the Angels had only beat the Astros once in 12 game and the Astros were fighting for a wildcard spot.  Thanks to the Angels taking 3 out of 4 from those pesky dudes in orange, the Astros are all but eliminated from any playoffs hopes at this point in time.  They crushed our dreams in 2015 so it was nice that we could return the favor.  This should make for a fun series - with two teams that have nothing left to lose and are free to have fun and play some good ball.

The Angels are going out on a high note (and possibly dropping out of a top 10 draft pick for 2017), have won 7 of their last 8 games, and won't finish last thanks to their recent sweep of the A's.  For their part, the Astros have lost 5 of their last 8 games.

Biggest question(s): Can Mike Trout join the 30/30 club again? Will Jered Weaver take the mound in the final game of the year for what could be his final game as an Angel?

Players/Stats to watch:

None
Brad Peacock has started 4 games this year for the Astros, one of which was against the Angels just last week.  In that game he pitched 5 innings, allowed just one run, and struck out 7.  Peacock has a 2.67 ERA in 9 appearances for the Astros in 2016.
Daniel Wright's rookie season is probably not going the way he had hoped.  In his 4 starts with the Angels he has a 6.68 ERA.  Last week against the Astros, Wright had his longest start (6 innings) and gave up 3 runs.
VERDICT: This games probably leans Astros judging by this pitching matchup.
