MondoLinks: An arbitrarily good weekend

It was a pretty busy weekend as lots of players and teams agreed to new deals and avoided arbitration hearings. The Angels secured all of their guys.

It was a pretty busy weekend of pre-arbitration signings all around both leagues. Starting Thursday night, Billy Eppler got the ink done with Danny Espinosa, Kole Calhoun, Garrett Richards, Matt Shoemaker and Martin Maldonado. That's all five of our guys. Around the league, big names such as Bryce Harper and Manny Machado and Jake Arrieta all got signed (track the full list here).

There are still a lot of names out there to be dealt with, but the deadline for avoiding arbitration has came and went Friday. But we Halo fans can just jump right to Links:

A Little Bit of Angels News

Know hope. Sure, it's kind of hard to believe, but it is now just possible to start imagining that the Angels have areal shot at the playoffs next year. But don't just take my word for it...........

Matt Shoemaker appears to be all the way back from his head injury, and is looking forward to getting back on the mound in a month..........

Yeah, Arte, if you don't want to come across to the entire sporting world as Dean Spanos Lite, you might want to start working to get off the trail that Spanos has blazed............

Fantasy players know this better than most LAA fans. Despite all the whining and complaining, Albert Pujols' production over the past 3 seasons has been pretty damned solid..............His slash line ain't been too bad, either..............

Everywhere In Baseball

On the flip side to all the signings to avoid arbitration, we find the Cardinals. They are going to go to arbitration on at least two players, Michael Wacha and Carlos Martinez. As the link notes, this would be the first time that the Cards franchise has decided to sit through the arb process for any player since 1999...........

We have known for many years that relief pitchers have gotten little love from HoF voters. Starting pitchers have been struggling recently, too, as voting standards keep a'changing............

This one is interesting. You would think that a Brian Kenny would be the kind of guy smart enough to know that Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens were already HoF qualified before they got to the PEDs era. But nope..........

Eric Gagne returns to baseball, signing on to represent Canada in the WBC. I wonder if he still remembers all his tricks to pass his urine test?..............

Trade Winds

Oh look! Ex-LAA catcher Chris Iannetta has signed on with the DBacks, joining ex-LAA catcher Jeff Mathis and ex-LAA pitcher Zack Greinke. If the DBacks had not traded Jean Segura to the Mariners, Arizona could have had a foursome of ex-Angels for Halo Poker Night. ..........

Now that we have 'fixed' our 2B hole with Danny Espinosa, and since the talks between the Dodgers and Twins to bring Brian Dozier to SoCAl have collapsed, the local team with the 'hole' at 2B is now the one that wears loser blue. So I am gonna spitball here. Rougned Odor of the Rangers rejected a contract extension last year, and in the Dallas area they are bantering about the idea of Odor being tradable.  The Rangers are swimming in infielders. The team itself says no way to any Odor trade. But then the Rangers FO might find what the Dodgers can offer more intriguing than the Twins............(They are actually interested in Ian Kinsler.)..............

Wil Myers was just signed to an extension. 6 years, north of $80 million. Let's just say $80 million flat and that would be an AAV of $13.33 million. 26 years old, with 4 seasons under  his belt. 1.9, -1.0, 1.1 and 3.2 bWAR. Last year, his best, a .259BA. Kind if makes Mike Trout's AAV of $24 million seem like a huge bargain, no?..........

The Duffle Bag

People are just the worst. Derek Jeter needs to turn his home into a fortress just to get people to stop ripping out his house plants and stuff...........Ignorant actress crashes into ignorant athlete, Internet gets forced off the road...........I can't get too very far in this discussion of ugliest caps per franchise, Mostly because it's hard to compete with the exceptional skills of Disney...........Boston fans remain despicable shit heads.............If you think that the news around here is slow, well, you'd be right. But it could be worse. It could be Chicago...........
