Angels have signed a guy who threw 101 MPH and hit a ball at 111 MPH in 2017 - AND he’s only 23 years old. Also, just for fun - check out this chart of fastball spin vs. velocity in 2017:
Shohei Ohtani was rated as the TOP International prospect as soon as he became available to MLB. We are talking about a 10 tool player here. Look out Mike Trout. Check out these scouting grades.
Note: The Angels don’t have a single pitcher with an 80 grade fastball or hitter with 65 grade power in their entire minor league system.
I’ll leave you with some responses to this signing from Ohtani’s new teammates and from around the baseball world. EVERYONE is excited - unless they are not an Angels fan.

Side note. @MikeTrout is getting married this weekend. #Eagles practice in his yard, Ohtani announces he is joining him... these are the answers for what do you get for the guy who has everything— Doug Gottlieb (@GottliebShow) December 8, 2017
So the #Angels get Kevin Maitan AND Shohei Ohtani. Not a bad week. This list is about to get a little bit better: https://t.co/dHzguiykh4 pic.twitter.com/53mllbDnl4— MLB Pipeline (@MLBPipeline) December 8, 2017
Ohtani signed with the Angels....congrats on killing your mlb career before it started.— Matt in Iowa (@mattkemm) December 8, 2017
The nice thing about Ohtani signing with the Angels is I'll be able to see him play in a nearly empty stadium when the Halos play the White Sox next year.— Winter Warlock (@SeanOfKelley) December 8, 2017
Now, all I have left are sour grapes, in the hopes that MLB finds the Angels engaged in some illegal shenanigans with their whole Ohtani whathaveyou. PLEASE BRING THE HAMMER DOWN!— Steven A. Taylor (@TaylorHandsome) December 8, 2017
How a lot of us Mariners fans feel right now after hearing about Ohtani signing with the Angels... pic.twitter.com/E4643xnRK1— Rey Sacramento (@djrazs) December 8, 2017
