Garrett Richards in Spring Training 2017 is directing a ton of attention towards stem cell therapy as an alternative to Tommy John surgery.

Garrett Richards in Spring Training 2017 is directing a ton of attention towards stem cell therapy as an alternative to Tommy John surgery. The whole world of baseball is holding its collective breath rand hoping right along with us Halo fans that Richards remains healthy from here on out, proving the efficacy of his treatment path.

So I'm putting this here because it's all about Garrett Richards Therapy. Seriously, it's Garrett Richards Therapy, and then it's Garrett Richards Therapy, and then it's Garrett Richards Therapy one more time..............

Mon dieu, Compared to the winter off-season, there is now so much news going on that I am punch-drunk with links. I wandered so far out into the field on the Intertubes that I learned something new. Where the eff has two-ingredient cake been all my life??

Get busy. You got Links:

A Little Bit of Angels News

Jose Mota is already high on Bud Norris. Or maybe just high. I can't tell. Whatever it is, Jeff Fletcher of the OCR is warning us that Norris is totally serious about making the roster..........

Meanwhile, over at first base, C.J. Cron knows that he is in for a battle. (Best quote of the link comes from Mike Trout, on why he took no cuts during BP: "Because he was not trying to win the batting title of February 21")..........The Angels know they get to enjoy some fierce competition for playing time there this year, with Luis Valbuena in the fold AND an Albert Pujols who will need some occasional time on defense...........

By the way, did you know that since Albert Pujols started playing for the Angels in 2012, only 2 active Halos have delivered more value? That's right. Mike Trout leads, of course, at $353.3MM. Kole Calhoun is second at $97.0MM. Albert Pujols is 4th at $73.5MM, but Erick Aybar (3rd) is longer with the team. FanGraphs gives us the data. In fact, Pujols is 9th overall for this entire millenium, with an outside shot of passing even Vlad Guerrero when all is said and done..........

Everywhere In Baseball

New for 2017: MLB is approving a signal from the bench to allow the batter a free pass to 1B rather than 4 pitches for an IBB. That should help pace of play greatly, possibly shaving off as much as 15 seconds every other game..........There would be more changes, but Rob Manfred has taken to the media to chastise the players for failure to cooperate............Well, union boss Tony Clark ain't about to sit there and let the commish call him out, so off to the press he went, pretty much calling BS. Now, these two children can go back and forth at each other all day in via the media, but we should ask the obvious question: couldn't these guys have made better use of the past year's worth of CBA negotiating face time to figure out this silly stuff?...........Hmmm. Maybe not. Maybe MLB didn't want to talk about this at all. MAybe they just want to force things and screw anybody else's opinions. And if not this season, buckle up, because maybe the changes could come next season by MLB fiat...........

Chicago winning the World Series, and renovating their ballpark, looks to lead MLB towards granting them the All-Star Game for the first time since 1990. Fun Fact: Bobby Bonilla played in that 1990 ASG. Bobby Bonilla is still getting paid by the NY Mets. In fact, 18 more seasons at twice the league minimum...........

In some bold predictions, Carlos Correa is thought to be the best shortstop in baseball in 2017. Oddly, it's not because he is expected to greatly improve his defense. Nope, it's because he is expected to improve his rather blah offensive slash line by getting luckier on balls he puts in play. Because his launch angle and exit velocity insists that to happen. I guess that it's easy to forget that an Andrelton Simmons still exists when he doesn't show up on your charts after not playing in enough games to qualify for one season..........

Ok, the Nats signed Matt Wieters. ESPN says that is a real bargain for the Nats!....Fox Sports gives us 5 reasons why Matt Wieters makes the Nats the NL East favorites!....They also say that they knew it all along.....FanGraphs looks at it and wonders why the hell the Nats spent their money in that manner?....But the Washington Post has it all figured out. It ain't about none of those things. It's about the ongoing pissing contest between Orioles owner Peter Angelos and Nationals owner Ted Lerner...........

Watch out. The Cubs are far from finished messing with the status quo when it comes to pitchers in Major League Baseball. "No organization has been better than the Cubs at acquiring and improving pitchers. The list of the lost-and-found in recent years includes Arrieta, Trevor Cahill, Justin Grimm, Kyle Hendricks, Hector Rondon and Pedro Strop.".........

On the very same day that Rob Manfred casts his vote for human plate umpires over robot plate umpires, four of the human umpires retired. That would be THIS Tim Welke...And that would be THIS Jim Joyce...That would be THIS Bob Davidson and THIS Bob Davidson and THIS Bob Davidson and THIS Bob Davidson...And that would be THIS John Hirschbeck...........Because, as the Commissioner tells us, Human Factor!..........

ESPN jumps on the MySpace bandwagon..........Meanwhile, BAMTECH is amping up their tech genius game in an effort to pump up ESPN's subscription powers (Disney, ESPN owner, also owns 33% of BAMTECH and is looking to buy the controlling stake)...........

The Duffle Bag

Mike Trout in his photo shoot..........Baseball fans got some skillz too..........Dexter Fowler shows himself to be a good guy, giving away ST tickets to those who think otherwise.............Erik The Super Bowl Pool God makes another find, that Fanatics has some weak shit idea of which LAA players are great........... Dave Stieb feels dissed as a one and done HoF ballot guy. Dave, call me when Bobby Grich gets a second shot at any HoF ballot...........ALT+Baseball+History+Facts?..........Facebook is talking to MLB about streaming a Game of the Week this season..........Twins reliever Dustin Morse has an interesting ritual before taking the mound..........(h/t UniWatch): The Rice Owls have revamped their jerseys with a St. Louis style logo that supplants the Cardinal birds with Owls. Pretty funny...........THe SF Giants did their yearly photo shoot in the laundry room. Because, gritty..........
