Angels have signed Dustin Ackley to a minor league deal, with an invite to Spring Training, per the team's official Twitter account. Ackley was given the boot by the Yankees in November.
He had a short 2016 season in which he slashed .148/.243/.148 before an injury knocked him out of the lineup...yeah, that line ain't pretty.
This this has all the Hallmarks of a Billy Eppler signing: former Yankee who is waiver wire detritus but has defensive upside. Ackley is good with the glove at second base and left field, so you know he's going to be fighting for a bench spot behind other guys like Luis Valbuena and Ben Revere.
Here's the news from the Angels:
The #Angels have signed INF Dustin Ackley to a minor league contract with an invite to Major League Spring Training.
