Here’s a little bit of good news for fans of dirt-cheap Angels tickets: It appears that the Halos have decided to get back into business with StubHub, as they’ve inked a multi-year deal with the ticket reselling giant. If you remember, it was December of 2012 when the Angels decided to opt out of using StubHub, and they made Ticketmaster’s TicketExchange the official fan-to-fan resell marketplace.
At the time, this move irked a large swath of the fan base, as it would seemingly make it more and more difficult to come up on deals for Angels tickets. Although the move to ditch StubHub wasn’t THAT bad, as it was still plenty easy for most fans to use (TicketExchange was also used by the Ducks, Lakers and Kings, so it’s not like it was completely foreign to so cal sports fans), and there were still cheap tickets to be found.
They weren’t as cheap as StubHub had been, though, thanks to TicketExchange’s minimum ticket price, and it also made season seat holders go through some extra steps if they wanted to sell outside of TicketExchange. There was also the fact that most fans in general were just more familiar with StubHub, as a brand, as well as being more comfy using StubHub’s app/site.
I was definitely one of the regular StubHub bargain shoppers, often finding $1-$2 tickets for weekday games and then patting myself on the back like I had just figured out the meaning of life (although, who’s to say the meaning of life ISN’T ridiculously cheap Angels tickets?!). That being said, as much as I’d made a fuss out of the Angels bailing on StubHub, I can’t say I’ve had too many problems getting cheap tickets since then.
Still, I’m going to chalk this up as good news. It’s good for the team, for the bargain hunter fans, and for the season ticket holders looking to unload some of their games. Here’s to hoping I can score some $0.99 tickets this coming season. If the days of dirt cheap fan-to-fan ticket sales are back, then I gladly welcome StubHub back into the Halos fold.
