MondoLinks: Trout & co. 'wasting' Tyler Skaggs

The Angels got themselves broomed right out of Missouri. I hope, at least, they enjoyed some decent BBQ so that it wasn't a total waste.

Well, we got that household cleaning utensil treatment that I predicted on Friday. Just not in our favor.

That's now 5 losses in a row. 45 innings worth of offensive opportunity. Let me restate that FORTY FIVE FULL INNINGS OF OFFENSIVE OPPORTUNITY. 9 runs. 3 + 3 + 1 +2 + 0.

Oh, sure, it was a team effort. The pitching gave up 27 runs over those 5 games. 5 1/2 runs per game is going to result in a lot of losses even with the best of offenses. And they gotta own it. But when one of their pitchers shows up to work, and the offense takes that day off, that's a pretty crappy day.

And this offense is on a run of pretty crappy days. As a team, they have left 29 runners stranded on base over these past 5 games. Albert Pujols? You left 11 of those guys. You and your .150 BA over this period. That was $800,000, pro rated, wasted. But that's just me "writing negative stuff". Pujols ain't gonna worry about it until September. Which, at this rate, will be about 2 months too late.

Things will NOT go like this all season. There will be good times. And just remember. This is still better than No-baseball-vember.

Have some Astro-nomically scary Links:

A Little Bit of Angels News

Might as well get it out of the way now. The Angels lost Friday at Kansas City. And then they lost on Saturday. And before they hopped a flight to Houston, they took the time to lose on Sunday, too...........

Fair point, Pedro. The season opened 2 weeks ago, and Cam Bedrosian has pitched only 4 official innings. That's tied for 319th in all of baseball. Still better than Huston Street.........

Whatever it is that is eating at Garrett Richards, it ain't spinal issues..............

Everywhere In Baseball

Cubs coach Joe Maddon has now joined the passenger list of the S.S. GimmeRoboBaseball. In that link, the part I find of interest is where Maddon admits to missing the value of Instant Replay when it is taken away, during Spring Training. And I can recall the time when so many resented even the concept of IR in baseball...........

Also changing, and comparatively rapidly considering the traditions of the game, are starting pitchers not using the full windup even with the bases empty (requires subscription)............

This story strikes me as rather upside down. The thrust appears to be how excited we all should be to be able to get ESPN content without paying the cable company. In fact, the whole point of cord-cutting is to get sports content without paying ESPN. It's ESPN that drives broadcast packages through the roof. The cord being cut is not the one with the cable company. That's the required connection to the Internet. That's how consumers Sling, Vue, YouTube and Hulu................

The Tigers are worried that the Indians are stealing their signs. Which, of course, is all that is needed for the Indians to be winning the mind games. I dunno why all the angst over this kind of stuff. If your sign system is so stupid that other teams can read what you are doing, whose fault is that? You might as well be shouting out your pitches and plays............

Now THIS is a good reason to pull a guy throwing a no-hitter. No way, at 93 pitches and only the 6th inning, Dan Straily was going to last all 9...............

This is an amazing story. The heart and kidneys that Rod Carew received came from ex-Baltimore Ravens tight end Konrad Reuland. Rueland died in December of a brain aneurysm. But, years ago, Rueland was a high school athlete in Orange County and had met Carew through Carew's daughter. The whole Carew family knew of of the Reuland family because of athletics............

Baseball season has officially started. Rich Hill's blister is back............

"Here comes the pizza". Just because it's so much damned fun..........

The Rays were the last team to win on the road. This was April 14th at 10:47 PM local time in Boston.....

The Blue Jays were the final team to snag a win at home. April 15th at 3:48 PM EDT, local time in Toronto.....

Marlin Man, uh, expanding his gig.......Jarrett Parker + shitty padding = broken clavicle..............Daniel Murphy ain't got time for your shit..............Whaaaa...? The Cubs WS rings cost $70,000 each???..........UniWatch is raffling off their VERY GROOVY crowd-source concept uniform jersey proposed for Team USA. Fair warning to In 'N' Out lovers everywhere: sizes only go up to men's XL..............While vacationing at the new SunTrust Park in Atlanta, if you don't have time to figure out where to track down a baseball game, there is always foosball............And there is grocery shopping............
