The Salt Lake Bees are tearing up the PCL and a bunch of players got moved up throughout the organization.

MLB: Spring Training-Los Angeles Angels at Seattle Mariners Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports
Affiliate Teams (from AAA to Rookie):

Orem Owls, DSL and ARZ Angels won’t start playing until June.

Note: I won't be showing the "duds" for the rookie leagues unless they are top prospects or top draft picks. A lot of the guys in the rookie leagues are young and adjusting to pro ball. Many of them never make it past rookie ball, and even the truly gifted ones can have bad weeks, months, etc.

Burlington Bees
Burlington, Iowa
Level = A, Midwest League

Studs:

Jesus Castillo (RHP, 21), Castillo, who was part of the Joe Smith trade with the Cubs, has not allowed a run his last 2 games and in those 10 innings, he has struck out 11 and allowed just 1 walk and 3 hits. He now has a 2.37 ERA and 0.79 WHIP in 4 starts.

Samil De Los Santos (RHP, 23), has been in the minors since 2011 and has yet to make it above A ball. So far this year, he’s pitched 7 innings and hasn’t allowed a run. He is also 1 for 1 in save opportunities, has struck out 10 and only walked 1.

Jonah Wesely (LHP, 22), Went on the 7 day DL on April 18th, but in his first 3 appearances he struck out 9 and allowed just 1 hit and 3 walks in 6.1 innings.

Troy Montgomery (OF, 22), has a .468 OBP on the season and is batting .333 over his last 10 games. Montgomery has 12 walks and just 4 Ks in 35 AB.

Duds:

Andrew Vinson (RHP, 23), Vinson had a good start back on April 12th, but he was hammered in his April 18th start for 9 ER in just 3 IP. So far this year in 3 starts he has a .315 BAA and 8.31 ERA.

Jordan Zimmerman (2B, 22), Had a .435 OBP in his first 6 games, but is batting just .162 over his last 10 with 14Ks in 37 AB.

Jeyson Sanchez (C, 22), Sanchez went from hot to cold real fast and has just a .118 AVG over his last 10 games.

Others:

Duds:

Jaime Barria (RHP, 20), Baseball can be so fickle. After a great first two starts this year, Barria has given up 8ER in his last 10.2 IP. Good news is that he didn’t walk anyone in those two games and struck out 9.

[Moving DOWN] Drew Gagnon (RHP, 26), Gagnon was reassigned from Salt Lake on April 23rd (essentially a swap with Tyler Warmoth). Gagnon has an 8.53 ERA in 3 starts with 6 walks and 20 hits allowed though 12.2 IP.

Jordan Kipper (RHP, 24), His last two starts both went 7 innings and he didn’t give up a run either. He struck out 9, walked 3 and allowed 9 hits in those 14 IP. Kipper has a 1.80 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 4 starts.

Parker Bridwell (RHP, 25), Since coming over in the Orioles trade, Bridwell has made two appearances and hasn’t allowed a run. He also struck out 7 and didn’t allow a walk in this 5.1 IP.

Eduardo Paredes (RHP, 22), Paredes has allowed just 1 run in 7 appearances. He has a 0.84 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and has struck out 13 in 10.2 IP this year.

Eric Karch (RHP, 25), Yet another Burlington pitcher with an impressive season so far. He hasn’t allowed a run in his last 6 appearances and has struck out 11 in 11.2 innings this year with a 0.77 ERA and 0.86 WHIP.

[Moving up] Justin Anderson (RHP, 24) Moved up from the 66ers on April 18th. In his 3 games since then, he’s pitched 4.1 innings and hasn’t allowed run.

Duds:

Luis Tejada (1B, 24), was 8 for his first 16 AB this year but is now just 2 for his last 27 and is batting .135 over his last 10 games.

[Moving up] Jake Jewell (RHP, 23), Jewell was a 5th round pick back in 2014 and had a pretty rough year (6.31 ERA, 1.87 WHIP) in High A last season. The Angels moved him up to Mobile on April 24th to see what he can do there. In his first start for the BayBears he gave up 3 runs and 5 hits in 5 IP.

Salt Lake Bees
Salt Lake City, Utah
Level = AAA, Pacific Coast League

The Bees are in first place in the PCL South. They have 2 players in the top 4 for PCL batting average and 3 of the top 7 in terms of OBP. They have the #1 team AVG in all of the PCL at .313 which is 15 points higher than second place Reno.

Super Stud:

Eric Young Jr. (OF, 31), damn this dude is just waiting for his call up shot, isn’t he? Young is batting an insane .561 over his last 10 game with 4 walks, 4 stolen bases, 2 homeruns, 12 Runs, and just 5Ks. He has a .423/.453/.577 line on the year so far.

Studs:

Troy Scribner (RHP, 25), Scribner gave up 3 runs in his last appearance which almost bumped him from the stud list but he has a 2.87 ERA in his 3 starts with a 1.09 WHIP and 19 Ks in 15.2 IP which is impressive in the PCL.

Tyler Warmoth (RHP, 24) On April 22nd, the Angels moved up Warmoth from the 66ers, skipping over AAA altogether. Warmoth was signed as a minor league free agent last June and had a 1.00 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and .185 BAA in 2016. This year, he’s allowed just one run in 11 IP and has struck out 13. In his first appearance for the Bees he threw 2.2 scoreless and hitless innings with 1 walk and 2Ks.

Carlos Perez (C, 26), Perez needs regular reps and he’s not going to get that with Maldanado around. He has hit in all 4 of his games since being sent back down and is 7 for 16 with 6 RBIs, 3 walks, 3 Ks, and a stolen base. Who is this guy? I mean, sure hitting in Salt Lake is a bit easier but he went from a 0.77 MLB AVG to a .438 AVG in AAA.

Ramon Flores (OF, 25), is batting .410 over his last 10 games with 9 runs and 7 RBIs.

Shane Robinson (OF, 32), another of the Bees outfielders having a great season, Robinson is batting .372 over his last 10 games with 9 walks He has a .473 OBP this season with only 7 Ks in 62 AB.

Kaleb Cowart (3B, 24), Cowart is in the midst of a 9 game hitting streak, and if you don’t count his pinch hit game, he has hit safely in the last 15 games in which he was a starter. AAA pitching or not, that kind of consistency is impressive. His walks to K ratio is also improved with 6Ks and 5 walks over his last 10 games and 41 AB.

Matt Williams (SS, 27) is hitting .343 over his last 10 games and .326 this season.

Rey Navarro (SS, 27), has an 8 game hitting streak going and is batting .317 over his last 10 games with 7 walks and 7 Ks.

Keynan Middleton (RHP, 23), has turned his season around since his first two rough appearances. Over his last 4 game he hasn’t allowed a run through 5.1 IP and has struck out 2 walks, 1 and allowed 5 hits.

Duds:

Cody Ege (LHP, 25), Has an 8.74 ERA in 11.1 IP this year with 18 hits allowed.

Others:

Manny Banuelos (LHP. 26), Has still been just “okay”. Gave up 6 runs and 6 walks in his last two starts where he threw 11.1 innings and struck out 7. Banuelos has a 3.68 ERA on the year with 12 walks and 12 Ks in 22 IP.

[Moving up] Luis Diaz (RHP, 25), Diaz moved up from Mobile on 4/25 and got his first win as a Bee. He allowed 3 runs through 5 innings and struck out 7. Hi has 28 Ks through 22 innings and a 1.23 ERA this year.

[Moving up] Bo Way (CF, 25), was moved up from the BayBears on April 21st. He’s 4 for 18 in his first 4 games with Salt Lake and is batting .293 over his last 10 games.
