Angels Week 9 Rankings - Position Players

The good, the bad, and the meh - Calhoun shows up & Pujols slams #600

MLB: Minnesota Twins at Los Angeles Angels Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

I’ll cover the entire 40 man roster and will split it between position players and pitchers (generally 20 or so guys on each list). Each week the list will change based on the past week’s performance - but also taking into account their performance year to date.

The first post-Trout week didn’t look that great as the team dropped 4 out of 7 and scored only 39 total runs in 7 games. However, Pujols, Calhoun, and Simmons all stepped up with multiple homers and combined for 8 total. Espinosa, Young, and Valbuena even got in on the action and had one each. The Angels also had a .260 team batting average over the past week which is better than than their team season average of .239.

These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, scribblings on Cam Bedrosian’s Five Guys wrappers, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Matt Shoemaker’s beard.

Not on this list:

Mike Trout, 10 day DL

5/29 Eric Young purchased from Minors
5/29 Mike Trout placed on 10 day DL (Nooooooo!)
5/30 Nolan Fontana sent to Minors
6/1 Yunel Escobar recalled from Minors
6/1 Humpty Dumpty Cameron Maybin placed on 10 day DL
6/2 Michael Bourn signed to a minor league contract
6/2 Jefry Marte sent to Minors
6/3 C.J. Cron called up from Minors
