WeekEnd HaloLinks: BoSox Sale into town

New, 60 comments

The Red Sox slink into town for a weekend 3. This time, Chris Sale doesn't get to duck facing Mike Trout.

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Here come the Red Sox. All Angels fans in attendance are encouraged to carry disinfectant at all times to ward off the Pink Hat Brigade that will be slinking into nearby seating.

First game up: Ricky Nolasco and Chris Sale. Should be,,,uh,,,interesting.

All games count. All wins are crucial. Just like these. These aren't the Dodgers and some 21-4 recent record being faced this weekend. It's only the Red Sox, 4-6 over their last 10 and a team the Trout-less Angels defeated 2 out of 3 before the break. Hell, even if it were the Dodgers, these same Trout-less Angels managed a split with them. So this weekend is do-able. Let's enjoy the potential of it all.

A Little Bit of Angels News

Danny Espinosa is Angel dust. The dude, having been DFA'd earlier, cleared all waiver-wire-ish stuff and is now a Free Agent. CBS Sports, in a quick hit that must have been written by Espinosa's mom, wishes to remind us that Danny "...was a net positive at second base, but his struggles at the plate during his time with Anaheim (.162/.237/.276) far overshadowed his contributions in the field." Espinosa shall forever carry the indignity of a NEGATIVE 1/3 bWAR for LAA in 2017. "Net positive" my ass. And Arte still owes him about $2.6 million..........

Don't sell Nolasco short. Miraculously, he is the MLB career leader (1500 or more innings pitched) in ERA minus FIP. I know. Numbers are weird, man..........

Before he became your personal 2017 hero, Parker Bridwell almost walked away from it all. Maybe you want to send pitching coach Charles Nagy some chocolates or something as an expression of your gratitude..........

Trout is doing his best to try and convince Lebron James to relocate to the Sixers............

Everywhere In Baseball

Holy macaroni! The QO for this upcoming off season is expected to be set at $18 million. That is twice as much money as Reggie Jackson made for his entire career. More recently, Barry Bonds only bettered that in 2 of his 22 seasons in MLB...........

The Mariners dumped an Uber-load of prospects for a year and a half of Miami Marlins' middle reliever David Phelps............

Oh no. The press is souring on Aaron Judge? Already? Nah. More like snarkily showing the disappointment of reality..........

The best way to cut down on accusations of juiced baseballs is to tighten up on the manufacturing leeway. MLB is thinking about doing just that, and FanGraphs is here to help define the best baseball possible. Their answer? Somebody needs to invent some magical new machine that can replace the hand stitching process. I'll get right on that.........

Once again, we see evidence of MLB hunting their rabbits in the wrong bushes. They want to change the game and chase away the 4 obligatory pitches of IBBs, but they don't want to make sure that Rockies fans get to watch their own Nolan Arenado go crazy and hit 3 home runs in a game..........

"The Cardinal Way" apparently fails to include the pitcher covering first base on ground balls hit to the first baseman..........

Well, it's official. Everybody hates the Yankees the most. Except those who don't hate the Yankees, who probably outnumber us anyway...........

Dear SportsIllustrated headline writer, let me fix that for you: "The Last Cowboy: Joe West Is On A Quest To Preserve The Sanctity Sanctimoniousness Of Umpiring"..........

Alex Meyer had a no-hitter going against the Nats through 5 innings, and Victor was not about to let you know. Here is why...........

Tim Tebow is still out there, lurking among the shadow of the Mets ongoing MLB failure. He's probably the biggest story going on throughout their entire organization. Well, as soon as everyone gets over Yeonis Cespedes' smurf hair...........

Not having anything to do with us, but I always find it sad when a guy who has a nice seat on a rocket to a World Series opportunity gets ejected in mid-flight. On sure, Sergio Romo has already had WS moments, but that doesn't mean the next ones wouldn't have been a hell of a lot of fun, too.............(Personal note: this is the first time I have linked to NBCSports since they made their cutover to the new overly white web site design that all the cool kids are doing these days. I hate it. But what are we to do?)..........

The Duffle Bag

Steven Souza is not the first person to find out that the Oakland A's field is crappy............The DBacks are...shall I say...snake bit?..........Yep. Pitchers really ARE wackos...........Even the Mets broadcasters have lost interest..........On the other hand, the new Syndergaard bobblehead seems to be VERY interested...........Don't worry, Panda. Should the Red Sox win the WS and NOT give you a ring, you can still afford an entire jewelry store. Using Red Sox money..........Nothing is worse than somebody who becomes "supervisor" for the first time, and thinks the title is something to be taken seriously. They are always doing something drunkenly stupid with what they perceive to be their authority............Bryce Harper, food pornstar.............

Jordan Serena Destiny Watch

Jordan Serena DNP last night. Recently called up Keith Grieshaber has taken over 3B now that Jose Rojas has been promoted to Mobile. And the 66ers outfield is still rather crowded, ESPECIALLY SINCE JAHMAI JONES IS NOW PLAYING IN SAN BERNARDINO!!! Jones was 1 for 3 with a walk.............As punishment for stonewalling Serena's future heroics, Visalia creamed the 66ers 9-3...........

Speaking of Mobile, Taylor Ward was promoted and played last night alongside Matt Thaiss and Jose Rojas. Ward was 1 for 2 with 2 walks. Rojas was 1 for 4 with a double. Thaiss was 0 for 4.............Mobile lost to Chattanooga 4-1...........

Down in the AZL, Andrew Heaney had another rehab start. 4 full shut-out innings, only 3 hits allowed, 5 strikeouts against 0 walks. Very nice...........
