Angels Week 16 Rankings - Position Players

The good, the bad, and the meh - Game of Cron

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Los Angeles Angels Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

I’ll cover the entire 40 man roster and will split it between position players and pitchers (generally 20 or so guys on each list). Each week the list will change based on the past week’s performance - but also taking into account their performance year to date.

Summary

The Angels have scored just 27 runs since the break - good for 13th in the American League. Offense? Yeah, not so much other that some super awesome home runs over the past week and they DID manage a +1 run differential over 8 games. Their 10 home runs as a team was good for 7th best in the league.

Guess which Angel has a .471 OBP since the All Star break?? It’s oft-neglected CJ Cron who is also hitting .400 in 15 ABs with a 1.271 OPS. But okay, let’s give Valbuena more playing time. Note: In 17 ABs for comparison, Valbuena has 1 more home run than Cron but is hitting .176 with a miserable .222 OBP.

These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, scribblings on Cam Bedrosian’s Five Guys wrappers, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Matt Shoemaker’s beard.
