Thor'sLinks: A Penny for your thoughts?

In a shocking moment of destiny, the Angels power to a series sweep on the power of 2 2-run homers by Pujols, and a Grand Slam by...Cliff Pennington???

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Here is what happens when Gameday has a seizure:

penny-slam

Yeah. We couldn't believe it in real time, either. Neither could Oakland manager Bob Melvin, who insisted on a replay. I've watched it numerous tomes, too. I still blink when the ball hits the top of the wall. Not because I don't know for sure if it clears the wall. No, because I don't know for sure if it really was the same at-bat as when Cliff Pennington was swinging.

But there you have it. Destiny. Angels come back from a 3-8 deficit and win 10-8, sweeping the series. You guys can worry about Parker Bridwell's less than normal outing on your own. I remain too stunned.

With the Yankees losing 2 yesterday, there are now 4 teams within 2 wins and 3 losses of each other over both WC slots. The Halos are smack in the middle of it all.

A Little Bit of Angels News

The world is finally catching up to what we had figured out here in the #cesspool months ago. Older man than you think Albert Pujols is really, really bad this season. The math geniuses at FiveThirtyEight caught up to the HH eyeball test. This made the ESPN baseball cover page, and it got called out in social media outlets..........

Oh, sure, it seems like poor timing to bitch on Pujols on the very day he blows up with a multi-homer game. But yesterday was predicted by yours truly anyway, so such macro observations are still applicable in the face of an outlier event...........

Garrett Richards had a rehab outing with Salt Lake yesterday. Pitch speed up to 96mph. The results were not too shabby. Looks like a prospect worth keeping an eye on...........

Some stuff I missed yesterday: A cool little soccer moment between Cowart and Simmons. Seriously. Not bad considering it was impromptu in front of tens of thousands and with such a small ball..........Trout lost a bet to Cron. happily. He owes Cron some season tickets to the Phoenix Suns. Both will now suspended for gambling on baseball...........JC Ramirez went with platelet-rich plasma injection a week ago, and has a check-up today.............

Josh Mayhood's Library of Mike Trout Hagiography

Mike had himself a rather grand return last night, didn't he? 4 hits in 4 At-Bats with 1 walk, and 4 runs scored and 1 run batted in. So, yeah, almost every time Trout stepped out of the on-deck circle, he would score a run. And the one time he didn't, he drive the run in himself. That line should make for one hell of a bump in his WAR stats.

By the way, I prefer this isometric StatCast HR review rather than the typical version, don't you?...........

With 5 PA's last night, Mike is up to 390. only 112 left to 'qualify'. He just needs to average 4 PA's per game and play every remaining game and he is set. But if he averages 5 PA's per game over the next 6 games, we will wake up on September 6th with Mike on the leader boards............

Everywhere In Baseball

Anybody out there willing to confess that they pay actual money to ESPN and have an Insider account, to clue us all in on where Billy Eppler is ranked for his 2017 dealings?.......

One way to look at this data about which teams are best/worst at getting plays overturned via replay challenge is that some teams get more shitty calls against them in the first place...........

Curt Schilling accepting relief donations on behalf of Houston? I see no way that this could go wrong..........

Speaking of Houston, the Astros will be back at Minute Maid Park this weekend..........

Oh, Jer-jer. Still got that OCD drive to do anything at all, just to do something? Stepping up to take Mike Leake's millions off the hands of the Cardinals feels more like getting a jump on the 2017-2018 FA market for inning-eating pitchers. It's not a horrible transaction, but if you were willing to ponder other GM's as role models for how to stock a staff without taking on such a burden, you might want to grab your Baseball encyclopedia and turn to the section under "E", for "Eppler"..........One guy left behind in St. Louis is not at all happy about seeing Leake let go (even if it may turn he is the one who gets the money being stored up by STL)..........

There is a chance that Bryce Harper will miss the playoffs, which will suck for those of us who wish to see the Dodgers challenged..........

This David Price guy is a real piece of work. He has devolved to the point where he considers his role that of National Security Adviser, and the media (and we fans through them) merely annoyances to be deflected. He can't even be bothered by a "how did it go?" kind of question...........

Just a friendly reminder, things written by MLB.com's web site by MLB.com writers - despite the horse patooty disclaimer they use that states "This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs" -are, indeed, subject to all kinds of approval. We here at HH don't have access, nor do we have degrees in the field, nor are we unionized, nor are we paid anything meaningful, but we get to do better than that............

The Duffle Bag

Nice job as always,. ESPN. (from reddit)...........All this means is that Highland Park High School is going to have the worst sports parents in the County..........You're a good man, Anthony Rizzo..........It looks like Chief Wahoo will be gone for 2018. It also looks like Cleveland owner Paul Dolan doesn't want Wahoo to go away..........Randall Grichuk with a 2-out, come-from-behind, go-ahead, 2-run, 9th-inning, home run to deep center field! NOT!!!..........Massive in-game Yankee dugout food delivery almost gone awry. Wait. Yankee dugout food delivery??............Javy Baez with an amazing juke..........Somebody needs to sign this kid up. He's a baller..............Second game of Astros/Rangers at The Trop: 6,123 paid as Houston keeps swooning (they are 12-20 in August).........

Jordan Serena Destiny Watch

It happened again. Yunel Escobar started at 3B in a rehab assignment with the 66ers out in San Bernardino, and Jordan Serena subbed in for him, playing 3B and batting in Escobar's slot. Serena came in as a defensive replacement to start the 6th inning and got two turns at the plate, once in the 7th striking out swinging, and once in the 9th to strike out swinging again and end the game. Don't blame Jordan, though. San Jose's pitching staff suffocated the 66er's on just 2 hits in a 3-0 win over IE........
