With the tie-breakers done we finally got the REAL playoffs started. They just couldn’t end it.

Wild Card Game - Colorado Rockies v Chicago Cubs Photo by Stacy Revere/Getty Images

We finally get to START the playoffs. We just don’t know how to END them.

In a never ending extra-inning marathon, Colorado finally outlasted Chicago 2-1 in 13 innings. The game took 4 hours and 55 minutes. Over all that time the Cubs managed 6 hits (and that 1 run), but at least they got to extend their season out a few extra innings before they saw their entire seasons shut the hell down. And as a reward, Colorado had to burn through 6 more pitchers after the 5 they used yesterday, before they now go off to deal with Milwaukee tomorrow. For the Cubs, that’s 15 more wins on the season than we enjoyed, but...a 2-out, 2 strike, 2-man on base hit cost the Cubs 2 consecutive losses in 2 consecutive days against 2 different teams because of only scoring 2 runs across 22 innings of play. And that means about the same as what we got. Bupkiss for the Ditkas.

But the game had its moments. Bases loaded, 2 out, down by 1 run with your ass on the line and you have two options. Jason Heyward or Kyle Schwarber? It really doesn’t matter what you do, because as long as your choice fails, the Internet will roast you for not using the other guy..........And we have a bromance...........We did have weird shit last night.....A ball lost in the ivy.....We had a double play that wasn’t, which was upheld when it shouldn’t have been.....

Now we have the American League Wild Card game. Oakland A’s vs. the New York Yankees. Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum is about 3 miles as the crow flies from Forbidden Island. A national tiki treasure. A classic. New York? They got nuthin’. Tiki bar pretenders. The entire state is not even on the national tiki scene radar. A person has to have their standards. My pick is Oakland.

Speaking of picks. Make sure to bop over to the contest I fired up yesterday and throw your hat into the ring. It costs you nothing. It’s quick and easy. And the potential reward is pretty damned snazzy!...........(By the way, make sure to send me the email and not just confirm in the comments section. The comments section is to share and confirm, to alert me to check my email. But it’s email that is the authority. If I am not getting your HH handle matched right with the email and you think you have sent it, just contact me to clear it up.)

Let’s do West-Baseball-Rules-HaloLinks:

A Little Bit Of Mike Trout News

Some love for Mike as MVP. (And Shohei as RoY)...........

Mike is our candidate for Hank Aaron. Again.....You know he actually won this once. Back in 2014..........

A Little Bit Of Angels News

This is obvious, but it does warrant deeper thought. Sure, an trying to find a new manager, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani are keystones. But, exactly, what kinds of questions would you ask to understand how a candidate might see the optimal usage of these two talents?.............

Here is a new list of managerial candidates. We will see lots of these, but I choose to link to this one because it has names on it that nobody is guessing so far in the contest (above)..........

Wouldn’t it be great if Billy Eppler can whip out some magic pixie dust and stop all this durability madness?.........

Everywhere In Baseball

MLB attendance fell only 4%? With what we knew going into the season about how so many teams were surrendering to the super powers, I’d call that a victory............Playoff ratings are doing well already, however..........

MLB has decided to serve up the first volley for this post-season. Tim McCarver can STFU. They created a new promo for the playoffs and pretty much came right out and blasted The Book of Unwritten Rules..........Let’s have some fun, people!..........

Yeah. Don’t you really wish that the Phillies would sign BOTH Bryce Harper and Manny Machado and lock their payroll away from Mike Trout? Dream on..........

It would be a good time to have a frequent flyer account if your are a managerial candidate. lots of teams are going to be interviewing lots of people over the next few weeks, and they don’t use any combine system. Like the Angels, and like the Rangers..........And now we can add the Twins, since they just dumped Paul Molitor. Like, how dare you not make the playoffs two years in a row?!?.........

You go, young lady!..........And, furthering the empowerment of women in baseball, Kim Ng’s name is back on the table with the Mets’ GM search..........

FanGraphs reviews their pre-season predictions, and is embarrassed. But I look at those tables and see all kinds of obvious that they nailed. Oakland and Atlanta and Colorado were legit surprises. But getting the Dodgers, Milwaukee, Chicago, Yankees, Boston and Houston was all too easy and all too boring..........

Whoa. We get a (redacted) look into some of the shit evidence that has prompted the FBI to investigate MLB over International shenanigans...............

Yee Haw! A new baseball book is coming out, just in time for winter. It’s about a lot more than baseball, but that makes it only even more luscious. Here, Amazon..........

The Duffle Bag

Yasiel Puig may be safe to travel again, without worry about the sanctity of his home and jewelry............This is expected. The Mariners are aiming to let Ichiro make an appearance as a player when they open 2019 in Japan..........Boston busy doing Boston drama look at me things...........We need to introduce this Dan Plesac idiot to the history of pitching arm problems with the Angels............A lot happened in the changing world while Mike Scioscia remained an unchanging manager..........
