Jon Heyman reports that Eric Chavez will be returning in his current role: special assistant to GM Billy Eppler.
Eric Chavez is returning to the #LAAngels in his role as special assistant to GM Billy Eppler. Chavez had been a finalist for the Angels manager job that went to Brad Ausmus.

When hired, Eppler stated Chavez would be a “jack of all trades” assisting with major league scouting, minor league player development, and spring training activities.
In addition to those duties, Chavez filled in as manager for Salt Lake City late last season, fueling rumors he could be the Angels’ heir apparent to Mike Scioscia. Chavez finished the season to an 11-17 record, although minimal attention should be given to the record itself as the Angels pulled heavily from their farm system as injuries impacted the major-league roster to a major extent.
