I’ll cover the entire 40 man roster and will split it between position players and pitchers (generally 20 or so guys on each list). Each week the list will change based on the past week’s performance - but also taking into account their performance year to date.
Also, week 0 rankings are based about 50% off spring training and the other 50% off last year and expectations for this year. It’s a very scientific formula. Trust me.
These rankings were compiled with the help of MLB stats, FanGraphs, misc. data, personal opinion, scribblings on Cam Bedrosian’s Five Guys wrappers, and some fairy dust I found hidden in Matt Shoemaker’s beard.
Summary
The Angels bullpen was a hot mess this spring, and among pitchers who entered games as a reliever - they were 29th in ERA, 30th in WHIP, and 29th in BAA. Starters fared only slightly better at 23rd in WHIP/BAA and 28th in ERA. As a whole, the pitching staff gave up 51 home runs in 33 games, so they seem to be right on track with long balls again this season. They also only induced 17 double plays - good for 27th in all of baseball. What happened to all that great defense? Well, a great infield helps if you have ground ball pitchers. The Angels were 29th in ground ball outs this spring and 18th for fly ball outs.
