HumpLinks: Not S’Oh-great.

Shohei has a bummer outing against a red-hot Red Sox lineup.

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Angels Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

When the three counts of the Mayan calendar align into one off those blowout losses the likes off which we suffered last night, my mind quickly move to more productive things. I resort to following Mike Trout. Because even in the midst of a raging tire fire, there always remains the probability that Trout will do something cool. And smirk when he does. So why the hell not?

Let’s blame the Kansas City weather or throwing off Shohei Ohtani. 66 pitches over 2 innings of turd are not what this kid can do. But at only 23, he clearly is not ready to flip from all his preparation for the Royals lineup to facing the Red Sox with only 48 hours of notice. And, besides, every pitcher gets crushed now and then. Too bad for Shohei that it came under the brightest lights of national scrutiny.

Let’s move on, and have some When-Is-My-Calhoun-Kicking-In-For-2018-Links:

A Little Bit of Angels News

Matt Shoemaker is feeling real good now, and he wants to start throwing again. Which, to me, means nothing. Sorry, but I am sitting here on m ass too, and my arm eels great too. And I want to pitch in the Big Leagues, too. Shooey is the one with all the talent, but I am the one whose has not been living with arm problems. So until I get to enjoy a full season of Shoemaker again, I have to hold back on my optimism.............

Yet another observation of the mania taking over Japan as Shohei succeeds here..........

Here comes the predicted 6-man flex rotation...........

Spring sensation David Fletcher is still hot in MiLB (you gotta scroll down). ..........

Ohtani has asked to play more often, and the Angels may oblige. The thought is to let him DH on games immediately after a pitching appearance. (This ain’t the place to make 2-inning jokes)..........

Ohtani was almost a BoSox. Years earlier...........

Not that we saw much of it last night, but Mike Trout is no longer the sole threat under the Halo...........

Among the things helping the Angels is the bullpen. But somebody needs to help me out. Is the 2018 bullpen so substantially different than what we enjoyed last year that it is now a “new-look”? It seems to me that the real story is that the baseball analysts overlooked the 2017 pen more than 2018 being a rebuilt surprise...........

Everywhere In Baseball

We are off to an odd start this season. One can only suspect that time will level the field. But already we see the super team era falling down.....And we are also seeing all that talk of the restoration of the Yankee juggernaut-for-hire to be overrated............

Anthony Rizzo is willing to avoid shitty April weather by playing ewer games. I wonder if he has had any conversations with his union, or (at a minimum), his closest union rep. Because you know that if the players want to play fewer games, the owners will want to pay smaller salaries.............

Bryce Harper hits a home run with the same swing that breaks his bat. Broken bat home runs are not supposed to happen. So it was big news a couple off nights ago. It was even bigger news in the Houston locker room. And Houston had nothing to do with that Mets/Nats game..........

Keep in mind that the whole reason that Rob Manfred and baseball owners want to mess with the rules off baseball so as to improve pace-of-play is because they worry about making the game more relevant to the next generation of fans. You got that? Yeah? Good. Don’t forget it. Now, think about that when you read about how MLB is a draconian asshat army of stormtroopers armed with flamethrowers when it comes to social media as a promotional vehicle for their product............

I hope that 528’s move to ABC does not mean that they will drop their sports coverage. I know they say they won’t, but that comes at the very end, almost as an afterthought..........What we can count on, though, is the rise of The Athletic........

Also in media news, ESPN+ comes to Roku owners..........

MLB Attrition Update: Taijuan Walker goes down with UCL. That is shorthand for “days away from announcement off TJ surgery”............Jurickson Profar is out on concussion protocol after getting clipped in a hard slide...............

The Duffle Bag

The Dreams have returned to The Field.............After 5 decades of playing with Legos, I know I can do better. Somebody remind me this Winter...........MLB at the executive level might not be too concerned about all the cancelled games. But I am sure that the small team of people who have to hand roll the MLB calendar it’s been a sleepless couple of weeks............Poor Trayce Thompson is having a tough month. Waived by the Dodgers and selected by the Yankees on April 3rd. Waived by the Yankees and selected by the A’s on April 5th. DFA’d by the A’s on April 17............

Rest In Peace, Don The Beachcomber.
