Last year the Angels were below .500 against their foes from Arlington. This year - they are off to a head start by taking game 1 of the season series.
Garrett Richards took the ball but had to exit in the 4th after walking 5 total batters and leaving the bases loaded with 1 out. Jose Alvarez saved the inning with a pop up and a fly out. Hooray! Richards has struggled with walks this season and now has 12 through 15 innings.
Fortunately for Richards, even a few runs wouldn’t have mattered much because this offense was on fire! Five Angels hitters had multi hit games, Pujols hit HR #616 and Martin Maldanado played Mike Trout at home plate.
The Angels just kept coming at the Rangers, scoring runs in the 1st, 4th, 6th, and 8th innings. The entire lineup tonight had hits, aside from Justin Upton and Ryan Schimpf (though Chris Young replaced Schimpf and he DID have a hit).
Oh, and Cam Bedrosian came in to finish the 9th by giving up an obligatory HR before calling this one a game because that’s what Cam does.
This offense has been SUPER FUN to watch this year, and today’s game was no exception. Tomorrow night we get to do it again but with Ohtani in the lineup.
