Here we go. Again.
I wonder if Angels reporters like Jeff Fletcher get tired of saying the same thing over and over again? I wonder if he has a template that he just copies and pastes and changes the name?
The #Angels announced Garrett Richards has a damaged UCL. There has been no decision yet on whether he’ll undergo surgery. Richards was presented with different options.— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) July 11, 2018
This is epidemic. Either the Angels are the worst luck team in the Majors when it comes to arm injuries or there is a clear problem in the system. I tend to lean strongly toward the later with maybe a bit of bad luck mixed in. Something is wrong and the Angels have the most UCL injuries since 2013. More on that later. If someone doesn’t beat me to it on the staff, I plan to take a deeper dive into the Angels arm injury history over recent years.
Considering Richards had PRP injections - as did Shohei Ohtani, what does this mean for Ohtani’s future? For his arm health? There are many unanswered questions like - what is the plan for Richards? Surgery? Therapy? Rest? Voodoo? Pixie Dust? One thing is (mostly) clear: Richards is probably done pitching for the season.
The sad part of this is that Richards seems like a super awesome dude and has such great potential. He was drafted by the Angels in 2009 and has likely thrown his last pitch for the organization since his contract is up at the end of the season. Read more about it from Jeff Fletcher at the OC Register.
