Shohei Ohtani launches a massive 7th -inning pinch-hit moon shot to victory, as Andrew Heaney takes down a career high 10Ks

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angeles Angels Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angels remains firmly in the grasp of the Angels. As bad as injuries have hit the LADs, the Halos are one team against whom that excuse falls flat. Like a Yasiel Puig overswing. The shell of the Angels took 2 games of 3 from the skeleton of the Dodgers, and all of the games were close enough to be watchable. And, for a change, Dodger fans even got to watch!

Yesterday was prime. ESPN Game OF The Week prime. Prime enough to watch Andrew Heaney strike out 10 batters (although that 3rd inning was pretty weak). Prime enough for America to watch Mike Trout get the IBB treatment (his 5th free pass in the past 6 games). Prime enough to watch Justin Upton punish LAD skipper Dave Roberts for that IBB. Prime enough to see Albert Pujols launch his game-tying 627th career home run, which was also his career 1,276th career extra-base hit, moving him past the very same Alex Rodriguez up in the booth for ESPN, covering the game.

And prime enough to see Shohei Ohtani step up to the plate as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 7th inning, game tied, and then do this.

That S-HO-OH-HO-mer was the winning moment, with a stadium roaring in approval. Heaney went 7 innings on 103 pitches, and miraculously Hansel Robles and Justin Anderson held down the fort over the last 2 innings and we had a Sunday night prime time victory shown nationwide, 4-3.

A Little Bit Of Shohei Ohtani News

Shohei is fast. Real fast. But stealing bases requires more than just blinding speed. And Ohtani knows that.............

Lest you forget, Ohtani was THE spark back in Friday night’s victory..........

A Little Bit Of Mike Trout News

Mike is an All-Star. I know. Not news...........Also, no Home Run Derby. I know. Also not news...........

Mike is still kind of slumping. But that doesn’t stop teams from giving his a free pass. Nobody wants to be that guy who gets bitten when Trout re-emerges. And Trout is remaining focused and attentive, not getting frustrated and expanding his own strike zone............

A Little Bit Of Angels News

Mike Scioscia has some praise for Ohtani the potential base stealer, and for David Fletcher. Now, if only Fletcher was as tenured a veteran as Luis Valbuena. I like the headline phrase “caught the eye”. It would make one wonder what he was looking at in Tempe?..........

Buster Olney wants to get his hands on Garrett Richards and Martin Maldonado...........And he is pimping on behalf of Andrelton Simmons...........

Worst use of a roster spot on the 25-man = Albert Pujols? Seems obvious to most fans. But then most fans don’t care about marquee value as much as the people watching how advertising dollars contribute to revenue...........If Rob Neyer were an Angels fan, he would have lost his mind this season long before he ever bothered to worry about Pujols’ stats..........

Zack Cozart expects to start hitting in November. Cool. Just in time for Santa’s big North Pole Tourney............

Everywhere In Baseball

The MLB All-Star rosters were announced. All except the last spot on each squad, which is back in our hands. Andrelton Simmons did not outpace Manny Machado for SS voting, but can still get in with your vote. But, meanwhile, lots of people have engaged in the sport of ASG snubbery......Players think they are snubbed.....Local writers point out their local snubs.....Of particular note is the lack of Rays pitcher Blake Snell. The MSM wents nuts over this one. Now, let’s be clear, players upset with no Snell need to be pissed elsewhere - at the so-called pros - because fans don’t get to get involved in pitcher selections. Fans actually got the voting right. Rays pitcher Chris Archer knows this, and is calling out AL players for effing up.....The way Snell gets left off, though, is not such a surprise wince we don’t allow 275 players on each roster. It might not be fair, but shit happens......But the Matt Kemp story back to the ASG is an amazing one............

The Cardinal Way seems to have been re-routed into one ugly alley. Because it ain’t what it used to be. Steve Keim, STL General Manager, was busted for DUI last week. Also last week was when STL President John Mozeliak called out Dexter Fowler in public. And now we learn that Fowler and the Cardinals manager, Mike Matheny, are not even talking to one another..........

Maybe while Rob Manfred is busy running his greedy fingers through the official book of rules, he could take a moment to correct this asinine rule against allowing interpreters on the field to assist foreign players trying to counsel with their teammates. And yesterday was not the first time.........But the funny result is Blue Jays coach Tim Leiper getting ejected for being so mad he found oven mitts to heave out onto the field...........

Bad baseball. Bad, bad baseball...........Kind of like this (Sorry not sorry. Always fun to showcase Dodgers playing Little League out in the open. Also fun to watch LAD manager Dave Roberts go ballistic at Dodgers playing Little League out in the open.)..........

I could take a Thor being added to our rotation. He could be our every Thursday pitcher. I wonder what it would take to get him?..........Manny Machado is still high on the Dodgers radar, along with the Brewers and Indians. From the worst team to the playoffs in one quick deal. Not a bad way to lead into a Free Agency payoff.........And - barf! - Fernando Rodney might end up on a World Series winner?..........

Never forget. PEDs pays dividends............

The MLB attendance drop is evaporating............

I disagree with this position. 29 teams did not make a mistake on J.D. Martinez this offseason. Maybe 28, but not the Halos. There was no place to put him on our roster. Now, in hindsight, would it have been cool to have a Martinez now than a Pujols? Sure. Tell me how that happens and you get my vote. No, this is just MSM writer Matt Snyder whining for the MLB to toss out the CBA that the Union agreed to.........

Is online subscriber models the future of sports? I, for one, promise never to charge you to read my shit. But it would end up pretty stupid of me to have nothing to link you to than subscription sites...........

The Duffle Bag

If robo umps are good enough for Major League Eating hot dog contests, then...?...........Wait a minute. Dave Martinez has it all backwards. When a Pedro Martinez gets only the second home run of his career, that IS the time to celebrate, bat flip and all. Let the Albert Pujols’ be all blah and bored by the repetition of it all...........This foul ball taking out technology thing is getting out of hand. That laptop last week is one thing, but TV cameras cost a fortune...........Beware any sweet deals on LAA WS rings from some guy hanging out on the corner. if they are catching Super Bowl rings, there’s no telling what are in the 90% of other shit that gets through.........Look at this box score from yesterday. Note the losing pitcher...........The Nats have a real problem in their clubhouse. Well, until the bleach...........Nice reddit catch. Aaron Judge already has more career strikeouts (370 across 1 1/2 seasons plus change) than Joe DiMaggio (369 across 13 seasons)............ESPN did our Nation a huge favor, gutting the comments sections from their stories. Now about MLB, and Facebook..........These coolers need to get an agent............
