The 2019 edition of the LA Angels have had 36 total frames of offensive opportunity so far, and have only managed to score even 1 run in 4 of them. That’s 32 zeros. And in those 4 innings where the team has scored at all, they have scored a total of only 9 runs. These are clearly not the same kinds of results that the ST rosters were generating, when they scored more runs than any other AL team, and second only to the Cubs.

Meanwhile, the LAA pitching staff has been fairly tough. Only 12 earned runs across 33 innings. That’s a 3.37 ERA, putting them in the top half of MLB out the gate. Their ST team ERA was the worst in MLB, at 6.24.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Different guys playing against different guys. And, obviously, for different reasons. I think I like Spring Training better.

But hang in there. Opening Day is still a few days away. Thursday, to be exact.

Before I get started, hats off to all you people who fed your fellows great Links last week. Halos in DE has won the audition to take over this throne. All he needs to do now is grab his weapon and come at me! Oh, and after 18 live stage performances in 5 days somehow squeezed in between at least 60 margaritas, 20 meals, 8 hours of sun and culture, and one drunken bar fight (not involving yours truly), and 20 or so new best fiends, I am too spent to talk about it.

A Little Bit Of Angels News

We got ourselves a home run!....Kole Calhoun was our power hero......440 feet.............

Tyler Skaggs, although damned good yesterday, was pulled after only 86 pitches because of the work time lost in ST..............

Andrew Heaney has been shut down again..............

Will 2019 be the year we see Matt Harvey turn from The Dark Knight into The Angel of Darkness?.................

Chris Stratton, obtained just last week and shocked to be forced to play with Mike Trout supporting him,....is our starter tonight.

Even the ball boy was making plays on LAA batters...............

Trout running away with the vote (which is encouraging news at a national level). But, IMHO, this isn’t even his greatest HR robbery. His greatest was this one...........

Speaking of Trout running...this kind of stuff is why he is a WAR god............

It’s a new day, Albert Pujols. Keep that old body ready at all times.............

Justin Upton is out until June, maybe July............

Jesus Castillo, DFA’d to make room for Brian Goodwin, who was brought in to replace Justin Upton, has cleared waivers and sent to AA Mobile............

Shohei Ohtani joined the team for on-field BP for the first time...............

Stay strong, Angel fans everywhere..........

Everywhere In Baseball

Rob Manfred, incapable of nationally marketing the best player MLB has seen in decades, wants to be a national broadcast product. He forgets that he oversees a sport that thrives on regional attention. This, right when his broadcast division is amping up their regional streams...............

Let’s dogpile. Rob Manfred is our modern idiot. He really has no clue about where to take the sport, except for that part where he enables his employers to connive in pay way possible to extract coin from fan purses. Outside of that, all of his plans and all of his claims are supercilious drivel. And what’s ridiculous about them all are how easy they are to refute. Hell, he is still home runs and blisters have nothing to do with the changed baseballs he forgot that he changed in the first place. So he worries about fan engagement with every other statement. Well, I couldn’t find anybody who linked to this: “How Much Longer Will Baseball Stadiums Be For Baseball Fans?“. If somebody already did, you just got my commentary. If nobody did, go read it. Baseball is screwing up, and a lot of that is the owner’s own damned fault. I sure hope Arte and his team are not busy drawing up similar plans for Anaheim.............

This is the best of times to be a baseball fan. Too bad so many of those within the sport are working so hard to screw it all up.............

This is the worst time to be a baseball fan and have to attend a game at Dodger Stadium..............

Some of MLB’s best brains have been bench coaches...for the Angels................

As a career tech guy, I like me my tech more than most. But as a career tech guy, I know better than most that there are always ways to overdo the tech. So beware, baseball................And beware baseball broadcasters..............

The Angels are not going to go 1-161. Christian Yelich is not gonna hit 162 home runs (right?). But this family is stuck with a dog for life...............Someday maybe they can take the puppy to a Nats game.............

Chris Paddack wanted to arrive into his MLB career as the boss.....He ended up being all hat and no cattle.............

Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel are still without teams, but that may be about to change............

The Red Sox, with their pitching staff off to a bad start AND no bullpen AND with the highest payroll in MLB again, are still in an economic tough spot. The pressure is on to keep their young core, and it’s going to be expensive. Xander Bogaerts is about to get his mega-raise...............

This is a nice and long essay that centers on umpiring. But something funny happens there. It features a video replay of a David Ortiz called strikeout, which is framed as an exhibit for why ‘the human element’ sucks. And at the 31-second mark we see that the baseball tracks directly in front of Ortiz’ bent back knee. Low enough on the knee to grant Ortiz the consideration, but I can understand what the umpire thought he saw in that split second. And the TV graphic missed that whole thing.................

At least the Hal0000s are not being threatened with a no-hitter yet................

Ex-MLBer John Wetteland, formally indicted..........

Sure. Why NOT have a documentary focused on PEDs, baseball and Florida?...............

Rest In Peace, Parker Neff.............

The Duffle Bag

Angels fans are not the only ones to overreact. We shall always have the Yankee fans.................(h/t UniWatch) A great pic of the construction of the ORIGINAL Yankee Stadium..............This is why grown men don’t take gloves to games...............I get racing Presidents in the Washington DC area. But who knew that the San Diego region was known as the nations capital for sports anchors?............I’ll bet that raptors can’t HIT the curveball, either................
