Halos swept in Texas thanks to bad playing of the baseball

Bad pitching. Bad defense. Weak offense. It’s hard to imagine how all that could possibly lead up to an outcome of losing a baseball game. I mean, who could have guessed? What are the odds? I’m sure Billy Eppler is flummoxed.

I’m not sure that this is something that Skipper Brad closes the clubhouse door to fix. Losing 5-4 when you started the 9th inning down 5-3 but load the bases with nobody out and your 3-4-5 hitters coming to the plate, well, that’s the perfect time to pull the Justin Upton/Shohei Ohtani cards. It’s the perfect time to say this outcome will be different in June, so just wait. And in the meantime, here’s a bobblehead.

Between now and June, we will have lots of Deep-Sigh-HaloLinks:

A Little Bit Of Angels News

For as much as I dump on Billy Eppler over the Tommy La Stella vs. Daniel Descalso miss, I gotta give him max credit for the Brian Goodwin victory..........(To rub it in, before yesterday’s games Descalso had a slash line of .341/.413/.488 with an OPS of .901, an OPS+ of 130, a wRC+ of 138...all in only 4 fewer AB’s than La Stella.)..........

Mike Trout is still not 100%. Which makes that infield single on Tuesday night a little more remarkable............

JC Ramirez is making good use of his idle time..........

Andrelton Simmons is probably pretty popular on Mother’s Day..........

A great way to partner up with the Angels a give back..........

From UnIWatch.....Jonathan Lucroy appears to have left his own belt back in Anaheim. (#20 vs #21).........

Everywhere In Baseball

You wanna see a Twitter shit show? Just go searching about for all the posts concerning the White Sox / Royals dust up. On the field of play things were a little whacked. Tim Anderson whipping his bat at his own dugout to pimp his home run was not explicitly necessary. Brad Keller plunking Anderson in the ribs his next AB was zero surprise to anybody who has watched baseball since long before either of these guys was born. SO old school versus new school. As an observer who straddles both these schools of though, I know where this is going. Things on the field after the plunking seemed to proceed rather calmly compared to most other such episodes...until about the 53 second mark. Then the coaching staffs got into it. Old guys. Old school, I am assuming. But that moment was the one that caused everybody’s ire to rise. And from that point to even now lines of black and white have been drawn. Everything now is hyperbolized............

Respect for Roberte Clemente..........

Early in any season, when numbers are small and production has not had a chance to normalize, you get weird shit in the data. It’s kinda fun to inspect before it all evaporates by May..........And that weird shit can really make Mike Trout and Christian Yelich look monstrous. Although, to be frank, I would be more happy for Mike to be hitting more home runs and drawing fewer bases on balls. Like Yelich is doing. (P.S. - nice trade there, Jeets!).........And Yelich gets the ultimate Key To The Game treatment...........

But, yes, the early returns on home runs is not something that is just small numbers. My guess is that it’s something we WILL see all the way out to September..........

The Nationals are about to crush your dreams for Anthony Rendon. You had dreams of Anthony Rendon just like me, right?..........

MLB pitchers can hit. Sure they can. All they need are reps..........

The Angels just made Mike Minor a very popular guy..........Based on that Mike Minor success, Dallas Keuchel should pay Arte to pitch BP to the Halos..........

Cloud Alert! Fan Graphs is collating new stats for us to worry about..........

The Mets have not gotten the memo that effective bullpen usage has changed quite a great deal since 2015..........

This came up yesterday. When you say that the pitcher ‘struck out the side”, what do you mean? For me, it’s pretty much In’N’Out versus 5-Guys. It matters not what I mean when I say it. To you, it matters only what you think when you hear it...........

Alex Gordon is gonna be the bane of me. Every time I thought he would be great (or, at least, very good), he stunk. So every time I flip and expect him to stink, he gets very good. And to think, at one time he was a 3B.........

One thing we know about baseball people, be they scribes or managers or Front Office types, it’s that the best thing to do with a guy who is struggling is to just keep running him out there, because the next time out there will be THE ONE that gets the guy to turn the corner. Alex Cora is such a baseball person. Chris Sale is his guy....Fabian Ardaya is a baseball person, and Zack Cozart is his guy...........

The Duffle Bag

Every baseball park must have its own good dog...........Homering from one knee is always cool...........Because The Onion is the very best of the Internet..........This is a California miss. We owned the craft beer industry 5 years ago. Why the world had to wait until Virginia got into the act before some MiLB team claimed the stunt name of Beer Mongers is just embarrassing for us..........Scoreboard programmers in Yankee Stadium are not on board with this whole Jackie Robinson Day..........
