MLB: New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Well, now, ain’t that more fun? An 11 to 5 whacking of the Yankees, kicking them and their dumb wannabe SoCal fanbase out of our stadium. So when all is said and done, the Angels scored 24 runs in 4 games and surrendered only 22. And yet they lost the series badly, dropping 3 of the 4.

Trevor Cahill and Cody Allen looked bad, but Justin Anderson, Noe Ramirez, Hansel Robles and Matt Ramsey looked good. I am sure that there is more that I could write about the game, but my keyboard keeps locking up when I try to put the words “5 RBI” in the same sentence as the last name of the player we had manning shortstop.

The Halos now zip over to Missouri for a weekend, taking on a Royals team that, yes, is worse than ours.

Before I exit myself, questions I ponder:

  • Why should Mike Trout be credited with partaking in a double play for something that was 100% Andrelton Simmons and happened as a separate event from Mike making a great catch and getting the ball back into the infield? He’s not the one who dunnit.
  • Why doesn’t Mike Trout get SLG credit for hitting a single and then stealing second base, the same as if he hit a double in the first place? He’s the one who dunnit.

Skaggs tonight.

A Little Bit Of Angels News

Welcome to the Big Time, Luis Rengifo. Your first MLB hit. Your first MLB run scored. Your first MLB pivot play on a double-play. Your first LOBsters. Mostly you got to stand out there and look cool. Nice..........(Notice how as Rengifo stands on 1B he gets congratulated by his 1B coach Jesus Feliciano, then Yankee 1B Mike Ford, and then by 1B umpire Mike Everitt. For all that is said, MLB is a village.)..............

Something might be going on with Griffin Canning, too...........

Andrelton Simmons is one of baseball’s great defenders, but he is determined to improve still. He’s right. On this team he needs to step it up and cover the entire field and shut out all opposing teams.............

Mike Trout wants to see LeBron James play baseball. Let’s go to the tape. Wait a second!? That’s Odell Beckham, Jr. launching shots into the rock pile in Anaheim?!?.........

Why Mike Trout walks a lot..........(For those not paying attention, Mike has reached base safely every game he has played this season. 23 in a row now.)..........

And, wow, the entire team is avoiding strikeouts at historic rates..........

Cody Allen agrees that he is not worth the roster spot right now. With his velocity deteriorating, he needs to find a way to turn himself into a craftier pitcher..........

I have zero empathy with this person. She dates a Yankee fan...........Speaking of Yankee fans, who pride themselves on being such smart baseball people supporting such a smart baseball franchise, they sure don’t like being caught being stupid at baseball.............

Another first-timer to Angels Stadium checks in with positive vibes. This one a White Sox fan..........

Everywhere In Baseball

Today marks what might be one of baseball history’s bookmark moments, when the entire baseball world turns its attention to the MLB debut of the much-touted, highly-anticipated, Latin phenom infielder that should enjoy fame and glory for a generation. It’s Roberto Baldoquin Day! Oh, no. Wait. That was Jerry’s plan. Reboot. It’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Day!...............Daddy Vladdie is one proud papa..........As he should be. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree..........Thanks, Jerry. But, yes, we DO get to see him play in Anaheim. He’ll be here Tuesday.........

One would think that after more than 100 years, and millions of people who have thrown a curveball in competition, we would have figured out not just all the ways to throw the curve, but narrowed them all down to the best way to throw a curve. For thinking that, one would be wrong..........

The human side of the Danny Farquhar story...........

That time that a 40-year old gimpy guy who used to be fast, but broke his league and got old, hit an inside-the-park home run against the Angels in Anaheim. And you thought that YOU are dealing with tough-to-watch defense...........

If the PCL is blowing up because of juiced baseballs, how come it’s helping so many teams but the Bees?...........

When two teams get confused by their own lack of writing in the book of unwritten rules...........But all that posturing over unwritten rules did lead to this amazing opportunity for Tom Tango to laugh at Rhys Hopkins’ contribution to baseball infamy. (Thanks, reddit)..........

Is Scott Boras out of step with the modern Free Agency market? Oh, hell no, says Scott Boras himself. He is not what is wrong. It’s the market that is wrong. “To hear Boras tell it, the problem is not his negotiating style, but the way that clubs use analytics to value players, often landing at similar dollar amounts in their appraisals.” In other words, since FO’s have wizened up and learned to assign value objectively, Boras has lost his ability to play in the gaps and work teams against each other. And it’s everybody else’s fault...........

Oh. Wow. So many times here we have commented about MLB expansion. And at a rate of about 25% of that we have commented about the concept of relegation. The latter notion is far more controversial, of course, so more thinking has gone into the easier concept of expansion. But what if we tied those two together? What if somebody spent hours and hours figuring it all out? Then what would we think?..........

The Duffle Bag

MLB is teaming up with Stranger Things for a promo series. None of the dates involve the Angels...............Cubs closer Pedro Strop had to interrupt his interview with Chicago police trying to help recover his stolen car, because he had to go win a game............59-year old Grandma don’t like bullies. So she tats up to support her Chris Davis............Bat flips are stupid. So yesterday. Now we are doing back flips...........Turns out that Mets fans have the super power to be way worse than Phillies fans..........Dammit. I want a player on MY team named “Kieboom”.............Yasiel Puig is merely trolling baserunners............
