This news comes after Zack Cozart’s recent injury after being hit by pitch on Saturday. Jeff Fletcher reported yesterday that Cozart hoped to avoid time on the IL, but given Taylor Ward’s arrival that may mean an IL stint is near for Cozart.
Today’s roster moves:
— Angels PR (@LAAngelsPR) April 8, 2019
RHP Justin Anderson – optioned to Salt Lake
3B Taylor Ward – recalled from Salt Lake
RHP Taylor Cole – reinstated from IL and optioned to Salt Lake
Ward was hitting .375 with 5 RBI’s and a stolen base over his first 4 games for the Salt Lake Bees. Ward didn’t fare so well last year in the majors, hitting .178 over 135 games but he did have a pair of stolen bases and 6 home runs.
Ward’s defense at third has left a bit to be desired, but he has certainly flashed power AND he has some speed. Ward had the 5th fastest sprint speed according to Statcast last year, tied with David Fletcher and right behind Shohei Ohtani.

In the corresponding move, Justin Anderson has been sent down to Salt Lake to make room for Ward on the 25 man roster. Given that Anderson just pitched yesterday, it’s likely a temporary move and it probably won’t be long before he re-joins the big league roster. Earning those frequent flier miles already!!
