Shohei Ohtani Launches the Halos to a W

MLB: Los Angeles Angels at Minnesota Twins Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Ok. So I was off by one game. I had predicted that Shohei would be doing Ohtani things by his 5th game back. I was wrong. it was his 6th game. So sue me.

But there it as. The Ohtani thing. Just one long, smooth, easy swing. Almost like he is chipping a golf ball to the green. Laying up, maybe. But the ball just keeps going and going and...429 feet later............But Ohtani gave warning of his distance during BP...........

Right when a hometown FOX reporter goes off and starts bragging about how the Twins don’t strike out like the rest of MLB (well, not as good as the Halos), the Twins go and strike out 11 times. The Angels struck out only 6 times because, like I said, they are better at that not striking out thing. And on the hitting side? The Angels out-hit the Twins 15 to 7. Oh, and yeah, they outscored them 5-4 taking the win. Now a win tonight would put us 21-21, and the Angels would be merely 4 wins behind the awesome Twinkies that are sucking up so much limelight. Not just over their hitting, but over their pitching, too.

And the Angels are now 11 and 5 over the last 16 games..........

Now we move along to some Flexing-Some-Ass-Kicking-Surprise-HaloLinks:

A Little Bit Of Angels News

Luis Garcia is off to the IL, and Taylor Cole comes back up to take his spot...........

Jonathan Lucroy, offensive contributor. Who’d a thought?...........

More LAA versatility. Chapter David Fletcher............And while we are at it, let’s celebrate Fletch a little more for his defiance of MLB trends. Whatever elixir was handed out to Halo batters in Tempe by the new coaching staff, David Fletcher took a bath in the stuff...........

Mike Trout, Tool Five.............

$$ - Jo Adell is not just a fine prospect as a baseball player. He is a fine prospect as a citizen............

As I wrote above, the Angels are very, very good at the not striking out thing...........

Detroit fan is now feeling some remorse over walking off and rendering a potentially worthy piece of history worthless. Because you know what looks better than an $8 game-used baseball sitting on your coffee table? Yep. A $10,000 career-moment baseball from an inner-circle Hall of Famer sitting on your coffee table. Too late to try the humility route and capture some swag and a photo op. Albert Pujols knows better than you that the thing on your coffee table could be any ball, and he has already turned the page and moved on to Minnesota............

Everywhere In Baseball

Man, we have seen our share of medical catastrophes with this franchise the past few years, but not even we have seen THREE guys go off to season-ending surgery on the same day. Congrats, White Sox. That’s good for some kind of prize................

Sigh. It seems like only yesterday that Kendrys Morales joined MLB with the Angels. The end is fast approaching for Morales.............

Still chasing that pine tar issue, but now with real data.............

Dustin Pedroia played 160 games way back in 2013. Since then it’s been 135 games, then 93, 154, 105, and only 3 in 2018. After a delay, he has made appearances in only 6 games in 2019. And that has been too much stress. Down goes Dustin.............

This is an interesting thing. Extremely surprising. We already know that African-American participating at he MLB level is down to a trickle, and MLB is reacting late to this. But a measure of just how large of a mountain that MLB has to climb to get blacks back into our sport is that when you look at the rosters of many black colleges, you see a growing contingent of white ballplayers...........

Justin Verlander laments that the Tigers did not win a World Series when he was there. His theory is worth consideration. Players are streaky, and a team gets hot when multiple players go on a hot streak concurrently. This is not rocket science. Verlander’s theory is that off time during the playoffs cools a player off, and cooling off enough players on the same team shuts down that team...........

Mike Fiers, almost the most unlikely guy in history to throw two no-hitters. That explains my shock..........

Pitch Framing. An instructable magic trick.............

We have a crisis on our hands, and it looks like it is starting to rise up to levels where we don’t have the ability to ignore them so that we can just sit around and watch baseball games......We have an international ‘system’ where children are signing legal paperwork to get the chance to be sucked out of their current life.....And we have the MLBPA going on the offensive directly to the international baseball community in an effort to block Rob Manfred and MLB from setting up a draft system to restrain compensation from being paid to those kids. (h/t reddit)..........

The Oakland A’s just got took one more baby step out of the toilet they currently force everybody else to play in............

The Duffle Bag

So Miggy is assuming that the umpire can speak Spanish? Wouldn’t that be the less painful way to complain?.............From way way back. Here is the ivy at Wrigley Field being planted for the first time..........
