Angels 6, Royals 3
If you had to name the two most important Angel hitters and the two most important pitchers right now, you would probably come up with Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Griffin Canning, and Ty Buttrey. These four are the Angels’ stars, and with apologies to Andrelton Simmons, these four will need to be spectacular if the Angels are to sneak into the postseason.
Saturday, they were. Trout homered in the first inning to set the tone, walking twice more and scoring thrice. It was his 250th career HR. Ohtani added a two-run shot of his own. Canning pitched seven innings of three-hit ball, not even allowing a single run, and when Taylor Cole made a mess of things, Buttrey was there to slam the door through an inning and two-thirds.
I didn’t catch much of the game, my eyes glued to a movie theater screen rather than Fox Sports West, but this looks like another complete win, full of life and laughter. And really, I assume the gamethread must have melted down in the eighth inning, but what more can you ask for? Tyler Skaggs goes tomorrow for the sweep. We can only hope these four players keep it up.
For good measure:
