Series: Angels 6, Astros 24
If this series proved anything, it’s that the Angels are not at all close to being able to compete for the AL West title. The Astros had their way with the Halos on Saturday, and as expected did it again on Sunday. The only real surprise was that the Angels managed to score 4 runs off Justin Verlander who’s been just plain cruel to them the last few years.
The Angels actually started out this game with a lead, thanks to a David Fletcher lead-off home run. The Astros scored 2 in the second and the Angels answered back with 2 of their own (thanks to a Jonathan Lucroy homer) Matt Harvey kept the Angels in this game, and with a lead - at least until the 5th inning when he left with the bases loaded and was promptly Subsoiled. Cam Bedrosian came in and took 3 pitches to serve up a 92 MPH meatball to Alex Bregman. His ERA looks just fine but Matt Harvey’s does not.
You can’t blame Brad Ausmus for that one as Bregman was only 1 for 11 against TrashCam going into that at bat. But you CAN blame a pitcher who puts a fast ball in that location.
That grand slam was all the Astros really needed to cement their win. Even though Jonahtan Lucroy hit another home run. Albert Pujols knocked in RBI #1999 in this series and Mike Trout was missing for both games going 0 for 7 with a walk and 2 strikeouts.
No turning on the page on this train wreck of a series - just burn the whole damn book. Shohei Ohtani is coming back soon to pump some excitement into this offensive offense but don’t think that will change the outlook too dramatically.
This series was an embarrassment and thanks to being in Mexico, it was an International embarrassment.
