HumpLinks: Griffin Can-cels Tigers

7 K’s vs. 1 BB and 4 hits over 5+ innings makes Canning a good boy.

I think I like this Griffin Canning kid. He seems to be good at his craft. He seems to be healthy. He seems to have his shit together. It’s been years since we saw that on the mound under a Halo. Don’t wake me up. I’m going to enjoy this dream of 5.1 innings and only 2 runs on 4 hits but 7 strikeouts and only 1 walk. So we see him again on Sunday, against Baltimore? Then skipping the Twins and landing on the Royals? Then skipping the Twins again and landing back on the Rangers? Then Oakland? That would put him in the makeup game against the Cubs at Wrigley on July 3rd. By then he might be somewhat of a celebrity. My dream continues........

The Angels in 5-2 with a tiny bit of help from Shohei Ohtani (yeah!) and a tiny bit of help from Mike Trout and a little more help out of Andrelton Simmons and David Fletcher and Kole Calhoun

A Little Bit Of Angels News

$$ - Shohei Ohtani is back, and with him comes the workload burden of the Japanese foreign press..........Hey, it could be worse. They could be nuclear power plant workers..........

$$ - The Halos are expecting big things in Ohtani 2.0..........

Your Andrelton Simmons Moment of Greatness of the Day..........

There it is America. The Baseball World has finally spoken that which we Baseball Fans have known long enough. Bryce Harper Is Not Mike Trout. (Good Thing The Phillies Don’t Need Him To Be)............

We all want to be like Mike Trout...Well, except for Mike’s ability to speak Spanish...But only Tommy Pham is pulling it off?...........

Brad Ausmus ‘fixed’ Justin Verlander? But can’t ‘fix’ Matt Harvey or Trevor Cahill? Maybe it was more Verlander than Skipper Brad..........

Angels made moves. Jessica made the summary..........

Cathi Budd, cancer survivor, is our Honorary Bat Girl..........

Everywhere In Baseball

.The A’s play in a dump. Period.....But shit happens. Because of stuff like this.....Oakland pitcher Mike Fiers pitched a no-hitter, the second off his career.....I’m kinda shocked an MLB pitcher got to last 9 innings...........

Social media is a plague upon us all. It must be destroyed..............

I never have had any skin in this game, so I actually did enjoy watching from afar as Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent blew up the Giants...........

Fixing stadium attendance is something that certainly can be done. Not that the way Rob Manfred is thinking of going about it, but absolutely do-able..........

Baseball is a game of streaks. And team success is lumpy as it involves multiple players to collate a positive streak. Streaks, by definition, come to and end and when they do they take down a happy lump that some team was enjoying. So it has been with the Mariners. So it shall be with the Rangers..........

Baby Vlad is a bust. The Blue Jays need to dump him off to Anaheim..........

Remember way back when and suffering all the joy out of Seattle as the baseball world celebrated the Mariners’ great success at one-run games? And then how the Mariners were the surprise of 2019? Well, now it’s our turn. Over their last 23 games the Mariners are 6 wins with 17 losses. The Angels are only 1 12 games behind. And last night the pain continues. A one-run come-from-ahead loss, no less............

Dallas Keuchel is not signing with just anybody, because he is “standing on principle”. (Or, in Keuchel’s case, sitting on principle.) Keuchel has his own advanced stats which reveal to him what he should be worth in today’s market, and he ain’t taking the MLB FO interpretation of that data. Ok, so here is my take. In this world, every form of life above rock is always selling. It’s a life imperative. Keuchel sees his numbers and is selling. FO’s see his numbers and are selling their belief that Keuchel is overselling. I don’t know who is right because I don’t have details. Rumors are not details. But Occam’s Razor does suggest to me that when every team that really could use Keuchel say no, and only Keuchel is the guy saying yes, it might possibly be that Keuchel truly is the one overselling, possibly by choosing to overlook his age, or the steady decline off his peak in 2015, or the comp pick penalty that his Union imposed on him in the last CBA...........

Pitching roles and the relief corps ain’t anything like it was when I was a kid. You have your opinion. Mine is that I find it all to be intriguing and I and fascinated to watch teams experiment across new territory. Let’s catch up with where we are in 2019 already.........

Deep sigh. There once was a time when this headline would mean something other than simply we are all getting old: “Yankees Top the Mariners as C.C. Sabathia Bests Felix Hernandez”. I link to it not about the game, but about the headline. It’s to remind that baseball media is still full of reporters who wish to keep on reporting about the good old days, choosing to ignore that these days - your days - are tomorrow’s ‘good old days’.........

As I have been warning for months, Sinclair buying the RSN’s is ungood. And that is even before we get to Sinclair itself..........

The Duffle Bag

Pete Alonso smacking back at Chris Paddack............Just what the world needs, the Yankees being called Cinderella..........Are you KIDDING me?! The Angels take 2 of 3 from KC. Then the Angels get totally humiliated by Houston. Then Houston moves on to KC. Final score KC 12, Houston 2. Because baseball...........
