Maybe Matthew Boyd is just really good. After all, he has a league-leading 2.30 FIP and a 0.93 WHIP, and should probably garner some Cy Young consideration if he keeps it up. Whatever it is, the Angel bats that were stymied yesterday came back in a fury today.
Send! Them! All! To! The! HR! Derby!
Tommy La Stella and Kole Calhoun continue their epic duel for the team lead in HRs. They are now tied at the top with 9 each. Mike Trout, slacking, only has 7.

2015-18 with #Cubs
303 games, 9 HR
2019 with #Angels
32 games, 9 HR (2 today)
Of course, the big story of the day was Albert Pujols, who reached 2000 career RBIs with a third-inning HR. He flipped his bat in style.
No doubt about that one. pic.twitter.com/9NehgA0ljT

There were many unsung heroes in the game. Every hitter who took an at-bat for the Angels, even Brian Goodwin, who pinch hit for Trout in the eighth, garnered at least one hit. Even Justin Bour! Shohei Ohtani laced the ball a few times as he looks to get his timing back.
Felix Peña got an opener, Luke Bard, but he was pretty good himself. It seems that an opener for Peña is very effective. He worked seven scoreless innings,
Kevan Smith was another player who had a really good game. He came to the plate five times, reached thrice, and scorched a liner into left that was caught in a nice diving play.
Finally, this:
A piece of @MLB history! Eli Hydes caught the @PujolsFive home run for his 2,000th MLB RBI...and a chance to meet Albert after the game. pic.twitter.com/ZsojT2HKsM

Apparently the fan who caught Albert Pujols' 2,000th RBI ball declined to exchange it for anything, Pujols/Trout-signed gear. Many offers were made by #Tigers and #Angels officials. The guy left the stadium. The ball is not authenticated. It is worth nothing once fan left park.

What a game! The POTG was the entire Angels team, determined by executive decision. It was a team effort!
