Justin Bour sweeps the Reds away with a pair of home runs

A sweep is a sweep - even if it’s only 2 games!

Angels 5 Reds 1

The Angels are above .500 - again. This is largely thanks to Justin Bour.

But before we get there, we have to give credit to the pitching staff tonight. Jaime Barria started the game and his only blemish over 5 innings was a solo home run to Yasiel Puig in the 5th. Fresh off his rehab assignment, Trevor Cahill tossed a pair of scoreless innings himself, followed by Cam Bedrosian and Ty Buttrey to close it out.

But back to Justin Bour we go. Turns out his two home runs were overkill, but they sure made for a sweet victory. Bour was also the one responsible for tying up this game in the 5th.

Most of this one was a sleeper, as both teams entered the 8th knotted up at 1 run. The game wasn’t without highlights though. Just check out this amazing play by David Fletcher:

For a minute, David Fletcher was the hero of this game. Not just because of that play, but because he drove in Mike Trout in the 8th to put the Angels up 2-1. It was all the runs they would need. Apparently Bour had to show up Fletcher one batter later when he smashed his 8th homer of the year.

It’s a good thing the Angels won and took the pressure off Brian Goodwin who struck out 3 times and left 7 runners stranded - the clear blame of the game had this one gone the other direction.
