Today’s Mike Trout home run daily brings us back to 2014, in a wild game in Anaheim against the Twins.

The Angels opened a three-game series at home against Minnesota, and starting pitchers Kyle Gibson and C.J. Wilson were rocked early. Trout walked and scored in the Angels’ five-run first, but the Twins answered right back with five runs in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the second, Trout broke the tie with a two-run shot to right center field. The home run is at 4:25 of this video:

It was Trout’s 17th home run of the season, and 79th of his career. He was 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, and even stole a base in the fifth against reliever Sam Deduno. This was the 15th time Trout homered and stole a base in the same game, something he’s done 19 times since.

The Angels would hold on for an 8-6 win, and go on to sweep the series. This was right in the middle of a stretch that saw the Angels win 16 of 17 home games.
