Today’s Mike Trout home run comes from 2019, the second game of a four-game weekend series against the Mariners at home.
It was April 19, and the Angels, who entered with a four-game losing streak, fell behind 3-0 in this one early. The Halos were able to scratch across a run against Marco Gonzales, but that was pretty much it through seven innings.
Luckily for the Angels, Gonzales stayed in for the eighth inning. After David Fletcher reached on an infield single, Gonzales fell behind Trout. Oops.
The home run into the rock formation in left center field tied the game, and ended the night for Gonzales, against whom Trout is 12-for-28 (.429) with two home runs, three doubles, and five walks in his career.
It was Trout’s sixth home run of the season, and the 246th of his career. It was also his first home run since missing a few days with a groin strain. He was 3-for-14 (.214) in his first four games back before this two-run shot.
Unfortunately for the Angels, the Mariners hit four home runs of their own in this one, including back-to-back solo shots by Tim Beckham and Omar Narvaez in the ninth inning, sending the Halos to their fifth straight loss.
