Mike Trout home run daily: Going deep at Yankee Stadium

Looking back to April 26, 2014 against the Yankees

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim v New York Yankees

Today’s Mike Trout home run came in the first month of 2014 against the Yankees, his second career home run at Yankee Stadium.

The Angels were in New York on April 26, 2014 for a Saturday day game against the Yankees, the middle game of a three-game series. Hector Santiago faced Vidal Nuño on the mound.

Trout’s home run came with one out in the first inning against Nuño, a shot to right center field. It was the sixth home run of the season for Trout, and the 68th of his career.

During the Fox broadcast, Ken Rosenthal caught up with Trout’s parents Jeff and Debbie in the stands at Yankee Stadium.

Asked what his son might need to improve, Jeff Trout said, “I think he’s got to cut down on the strikeouts maybe a little bit. ... He’s a great defender, I think his arm’s getting stronger. It will get better as he works on it and takes care of it.”

Trout also walked in the fifth against Nuño and in the seventh against reliever Shawn Kelley. Down a run in the ninth, Trout singled and stole second base with one out against David Robertson, but he was stranded as the Yankees closed out the win.

It was Trout’s ninth multi-hit game in his last 23 games, and he’d tack on two more two-hit games the next two days.
